My husband & I are looking to move, and have been considering some homes in the Shady Spring area. We currently live in Fayette County, but both work in Beckley. We don't know anyone in Shady, but have been around the area just to see the homes for sale. Are the people there really as bad as they sound on topix?

You would find friends here. Topix just seems to be where more mean people congregate than normal ones. The schools are bad. If you can move here and send your kids to school somewhere else, living here would be fine.

Why do you say the schools are bad? I've found that their test scores (minus Ghent Elementary) are far higher than any of the schools in Fayette County. Although that isn't saying much. I'd love to hear from some parents. The school system here is a big factor in our decision to move.

either way it goes your gonna hear good and bad things on any area. Shady is known for the snobby trouble making people and a lot of people try to buy there way through sports and events for there kids, that is what I have always been told. Then I moved to shady and I never had a problem, the area seems to be cleaner and my family likes it. Although while in cheerleading, ball and other sports we have seen some sad situations with the actions of parents but I have also seen it in others areas to. So no matter what you hear its all it what you allow you and your family to be surrounded with. For me the further you move out and away from backley the better you will be.

I live in Shady and I love the area.I have a 10 yr old son thart attends Shady elem. and it is a terrific school. He went to Daniels elem. and we had some problems there because of strictness and almost military like action. Since we been in Shady though it has been wonderful! We live acoss from the high school in a little neighborhood called canterbury woods and have never had any problems. A great place to live! Hope u decide to come out it is a great place to live.

I only have experience with te middle school and high school. If I could do it again, I would not send my kids to SSHS. There are a few good teachers there. The education, overall, is mediocre. The politics is frustrating. Stay on top of things there. For the others here with young children, you will see soon enough what it is like. People I know, as well as myself, cannot wait to be through there.
