Should Claiborne County employees be on the County Commission? They decide how high your property tax bill is going to be in order to pay county employees and other expenses. They raised their pay per Commission meeting to $350.00 per meeting and $175.00 per meeting for any committee meetings. Claiborne County is similar to a company. Each property owner is a shareholder. But, the employees are setting your taxes and their pay.The ones who are school teachers gave themselves at least a $4200.00 per year pay raise. Somehow, I believe the taxpayers should be on county commission and the County employees should be barred by law from serving in any governmental capacity.

I agree! There are too many county employees on the County Commission. No more county employees on the commission and TERM LIMITS are needed!

Maybe. But first we need to vote all of them out!! This mess they chose to make with the hospital and now want to bury their heads in the sand is so sad Not one of the ten current members would agree to even put the hospital on the last agenda. If they get 350.00 to meet on the county business, then they need to be willing to discuss county business.

David Monday needs to be off the commission and the chairman need to be given to someone else. Give it to Jack, he could do. Better job. Monday won't let anyone discuss anything, he cut them off and wants to vote. Please let it be discussed and maybe they wl will have a better understanding of what they are voting on!

Communications between the hospital board and the county court must be improved, or they all need to be fired.

I disagree some what, I think the communication is very straight forward, SHOW ME!!!!!! The county commission (although I disagree with a lot of their decisions) is not just going to give them money, especially for a computer system that has not been bid out properly. I do hope someone in power recognizes that so much money is being wasted at the hospital, not with patient care but with the management, billing procedures, doctor decisions about patients, choices made about what money needs spent about what and so forth.

If this is how our county government and the hospital board works together, we need to sell the hospital.

You misunderstand, I did not say that they are working together. It is very clear that the hospital board and management have driven the hospital to bankruptcy or worse, being sold or leased to someone else. It seems that the county commission is aware of that and is taking action.

Then why does that court refuse discuss the hospital at court meetings?

They probably don't want hospital employees to find out that they are not happy with their recent raise in pay. Then again they may be happy about it.

They don't care to raise their own pay to $350.00 per meeting without bidding it out or asking if the taxpayers approve of their pay raise. If the discussion was about borrowing three and one half million to give to themselves and their relatives on the county payroll, I suspect the debate would be very short. I believe it would pass in a nanosecond without the slightest murmur of dissent.

But Joe, the taxpayers can do something about this. Vote your representative OUT the next chance available if they voted for the pay raise. I don't agree with the pay per meeting either, I would votunteer my time for my county and it's taxpayers without ANY pay. Some of the commissioners even asked to reconsider the pay but were voted down. IT IS UP TO THE TAXPAYERS TO REMEMBER THE ONES THAT VOTED FOR THE PAY RAISE AND VOTE THEM OUT.

You have the right qualifications to be a county commissioner.Being a county commissioner should be a public service. If someone wants to earn money for serving on the commission, they are serving themselves. The organized efforts of county employees to get their votes to the polls and elect representatives favorable to themselves is a well oiled operation. I wish I knew how to get the voters, without any conflicts of interest, to join together and take control of county commission and fairly represent taxpayers and county employees. The Commonwealth of Kentucky does not allow government employees to sit on their governmental boards and represent themselves. Our "Big Orange" country residents can learn from our "Big Blue" neighbors.

The three and a half million is for a new computer records system that the hospital board and county court approved sometime back. Now some court members don't remember it, some don't know about the federal repayment grants (66&) or the 1% per year medicare payment reduction starting in 2014 for not making progress in this system. Now they refuse to discuss it in the court meetings. What is the 350 for? Please vote to sell the hospital to anyone who understands business. Oh I forgot, some don't think it was properly bid. Very sad.

I am one that does not think it was properly bid, especially when the name of the one professional that wanted this system has the same last name as a very prominent doctor in charge there. Does anyone realize this?
