Now that Pigeon Forge has liquor by the drink, and the revenues collected for that will go toward education in Pigeon Forge, the Seymour schools are left out in the cold. Now, we truly are the red-headed, step-children of the county. Our school board members do not really work much for the betterment of the Seymour schools. We are left standing with our hands out waiting and wanting. Our schools need technology, auditoriums big enough to fit the public when our children are performing, and library improvements, among many other needs. Seymour has the best educated students in the county. Our teachers are among the most dedicated in the area. How they have performed so well in the state rankings of schools with the substandard equipment they operate with is amazing. Our superior students deserve better, but the rest of the county doesn't want to give it to us. Are we going to wait around til the rest of the county, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevierville, decide we are deserving enough? Well, don't hold your breath! We need to organize. We need to work together for the betterment of our community.

Seymour doesn't need it's own form of government to tax us with. Seymour doesn't have the tourism tax base to offset cost like Pigeon Forge,Sevierville and Gatlinburg.
If people feel Seymour schools need more money or are insufficient in technology in compared to other county schools we should take up the issue with the county government.
I can't believe the Pigeon Forge base that bought in on the liquor tax for schools. It's true the schools will get some money, but Sevier County as a whole will pay for the cost to jail and hose the alcohol offenders. This excludes the cost to families and victims of crime due to alcohol.

Just a Heads-up. We lived in Kodak for 14+ years. In 1993 the local civic organization discussed the possibility of incorporation to avoid having Kodak split apart if Sevierville decided to annex the Route 66 corridor. The idea never reached any serious level. We heard the same comments you're hearing now. Sevierville did annex the 66 corridor and split Kodak in half with no hope of it ever becoming a city. The Kodak PO is now in the Sevierville city limits. The major problem in TN is that the county tax does not go away or even diminish with incorporation. If Seymour formed its own police force, you would still have to pay for the county or state PD even though they do not cover your city. Good luck. You have a mountain to climb.

Incorporation would be a bad idea.
