A man has a fight with his wife or girlfriend, words are exchanged, then some nosey neighbor wants to get the man in trouble so he/she calls the cops.
Families will fight from time to time and to call the police everytime it happens is a waste of the police time and the mans' as well. Society needs to mind their own business at times such as this.

Except this fight involved him walking around the front of his house with a shotgun. Hardly a waste of time.

I'm going to have to agree with The Truth on this one. Seems like a little bit more severe then some heated words, not every fight ends in shotgun standoff.
Additionaly, the local Catholic church, Sacred Heart, was holding some of the familes that were shut out from their homes due to the scene being taped off. That's a noble move.

its never a wastes of time when a possible life can be saved, the probnlem with all of this is the fact that when you need a nosy neighbor they are no where to be found ex. when some one breaks into your home in the middle of he day

Wow. I attended that church for seventeen years when I lived in Ohio.

It's a good group of people. The best.

I agree as well. If my neighbor hears my husband and I arguing and later sees my husband walking around in the front yeard with a shotgun. Someone PLEASE, call the cops.

Now on the other hand, if it's me carrying the shotgun, pay no mind, I've have told him way too many times to fix that dishwasher.

Would you think it was ok, if your kids were outside playing on their swingset and this man was walking around with a shotgun?

Heck I would have called on him if it was my dog playing outside. People who walk around, carrying a shotgun usually plan on using it.

I feel that my statement was misunderstood. If one examines the facts they will see why this one is rather odd;
1. The police never have a 4 hour standoff with a brother. Its five minutes and then......
2. The time of 7:18 p.m. is odd in itself since most of these problems occur late at night.
3.Why was the SWAT team called at all? Ten cops couldn't handle the problem? I suppose they saw it was a brother and did their "lets get the brother" routine.
4.Neighbors were told to remain indoors. Why? Perhaps if the guy saw his friends he would have given up.
5.No shots were fired.
6.Inducing panic? What does that mean?
7. Racism? what do you think?

There was a police dog on site with a clear shot to take him down. As a matter fact he's looking forward to his 'first bite'. Sonny could have saved the tax payers money and aggravation. They should have turned him loose.

Most K9 hsndlers won't deploy in that situation. It's better to negotiate the guy down than put a K9 in harms way. Remember that a K9 is that Officer's partner. You wouldn't send your partner in after an armed barricaded suspect, so I'm pretty sure he wouldn't.

For those of you above who saw this as not being a threat you need your head examined. When an officer responds to a domestic call and a gun is displayed it usually means there is strong potential for something bad to happen. Who cares if there was 10 officers on scene. They kept the man pinned in and the surrounding residents safe. A SWAT team is exactly what the situation called for. SWAT teams are trained for these situations. They have the training and knowledge on how to defuse these types of situations without harm. The men and women of the WPD and other responding agencies managed this situation perfectly.
