I'm really freaked out by what I just saw. It appeared to be a mountain lion. It was as big as a large dog, but it was OBVIOUSLY a cat. It was huge. Light yellowy color and just laying in the sun on my property. Has anyone else spotted mountain lions in the area and where?

Wow! I thought we might have some lynx, bobcat or mountain cats, but did not realize Sevier county has lions. I guess I just think of lions as being monstrous, like the ones in the jungles.

I pulled into my driveway a few years ago near new center area and as I looked up at the house, saw a large yellowish cat leap out over the tall grass in the feild beside the house and imediately pounce back to the ground as if it were catching some lunch. Because the grass was so tall for haying I couldn't see the cat after that. Spent some time in the truck before making a quick run to the house.

I saw one cross the road just above the hair pin curve on Ski Mtn. Rd. last year. It was around 10pm.

I was not the only one in the car when it crossed the road. If you don't want to read about it try another topic. I apparently am not the only one to have an interest in wildlife in the mtn. area. twra should have also. What does twra stand for?

On 9/07/12 we were renting a cabin in Cabin at the Crossings about 1 mile East of Walmart in Pigeon Forge. We went for a walk about 7 PM when 4 women saw a mountain lion that was walking along a retaining wall behind a house in the next subdivision. We called the sheriff's office and she said we were in the mountains and would see mountain lions and bears. We were in a neighborhood where there were several houses but lots of woods around them. 2 nights later we were walking and the people were on the back deck of the house where we saw the Mountain Lion and we informed them of what we saw but not sure they believed us. We all had phones with cameras but the shock of seeing this large mountain lion had everyone watching him walking into the grown up back yard instead of thinking of taking pictures.

Listen. Mountain Lions are here! They are a part of the Natural fauna of this Country. They are Lions but hunt and act more like leopards. They aren't like the African Lions that hunt in packs. But they are still very dangerous. I wouldn't approach one without a gun. You should keep all small pets in your house after all these things feed on deer. Their is no reason to fear a Mountain Lion. If your ever approached by one it is better to wave your hands and scream like a crazy person and probably try to run towards it to scare it away. If you run away it will bite down on the back of your neck where the spine meets the skull and you'll be dragged to it's burrow and consumed slowly. Yes I can't believe that you are just now realizing that we have Mountain Lions here close to the National Park. They have just as much of a right to be here as the bears and the wolves or even you. It is humans responsibility to watch out for them and this will prevent death from both species. Mountain Lions are very elusive and are rarely seen. Just remember to keep an eye out for any predators if your hiking in the Smokies. I'm glad their here to be honest. People in other states just shoot them and their on the brink of extinction. This is probably one of the last strong holds that can support them and I hope they stay and breed prolifically.

And this is kinda like the black cats everyone sees. They are alot of them in WV. I seen them several times and they are more than just one cat out there. They breed and their is a whole group of cats that live their that are black with green eyes. They look like melanistic leopards. I've seen them on several occasions and of different sizes. But they all have been larger than House cats. Much larger. I think someone let two of them go in the Mountains possibly before this Nation was even founded by the English. Maybe the Spanish let them go? There are alot of things out there that people don't think to know about. But they are out there, waiting for the curious mind to find.

Well friend I can't speak at all about the type of animals to which you imply. The fact is I have only been blessed on two occasions to see the brown or rust colored big cats, puma, panther, mtn lion, and or whatever you decide to call them. They are in fact here. These cats seem to be in small numbers and very wary of humans. A close friend of mine has also saw a couple. Together we have some 80plus years in the mtns and woods of east TN, KY, and GA. He and I are avid sportsmen with experience in every kind of hunting available in these states. unfortunately we haven't had the pleasure of the black cat sighting, but we don,t say anyone would lie about such things. Our sightings were all clear and also offered great tracks, 3x3 to be exact. We were both amazed at the size and agility of these amazing creatures. I assure you, these were cougars, and not from someones pet release program. I'm not sure about anything else concerning the cats origin. Many old timers have told us of sightings all along. I think they may have been here in such small numbers in the most remote areas they were able to stay out of site for the most part. Now the deer herd is larger, we have elk again, and man we have a huge number of hunter going everywhere. That is why the cats are on the move and being seen again.. I hope they are left alone, so many people think of them as a threat. I was within 30 yards of one and he left in a rush when he saw me, just like the bear does if given the chance. Thanks for listening and happy holidays to all..

Caney creek has large cats, small cats, bears, monkeys and other dangerous exotic animals not meant to be here. check out exotic animal underground. Donated zoo animals, but closed to the public. Pigeon forge minutes also online shows shutting down the place by walgreens. Make shift breeding facility here in our town. Who knows whats in these mountains or our backyard

On the morning of January 30, 2014 I was slowly driving down Boyds Creek Hwy. Lying dead on the side of the road, partially covered by snow, was a large spotted cat. It was too large to be a domestic cat. It was white and yellow with spots. Could this have been a bobcat or some other kind of wild cat? I've been very curious about this. That evening driving home I noticed the animal had been removed from the roadside. I've seen deer, wild turkeys, heard coyotes howling, but have never heard of any type of wild cats in our area.
