2 county women among 13 indicted for distributing prescription painkillers

SEVIERVILLE — A Kodak woman and a Strawberry Plains woman are among 13 people indicted in a federal drug case involving alleged distribution of prescription painkillers. Two of the 13 were already being held on other charges in the Sevier County Jail.
Michael Angela Powers, 21, of 315 Ironwood Drive in Kodak, and Ashley Elizabeth Sing, 20, of 319 Hardin Way in Strawberry Plains, each face a charge of distribution of oxycodone. They were arrested this week.
Two local men who were already in the Sevier County Jail were charged in the same indictment. Ronald Tyler Koons, 49, of 201 Bogart Drive in Sevierville, was in jail on a charge of violation of probation from a theft charge, a jail official said. Dustin Tyler Koons, 25, of 202 Bogart Drive was being held on charges of theft, criminal simulation and violation of community corrections.
According to the indictment, the defendants “did combine, conspire, confederate, and agree with each other to ... knowingly, intentionally and without authority distribute and possess with intent to distribute, a quantity of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of oxycodone.”
The alleged activity took place from November until May 2, according to the indictment.
Powers and Sing were being held Friday in the Knox County Jail on federal charges.
Requests for information on the case were referred to the Knoxville office of the Department of Justice, but the media spokesperson for the office said they would not release further information because the investigation is still going on.
The case was sealed after the grand jury returned the indictment Oct. 4, but was unsealed Tuesday. Court records show that Sing was arraigned along with another defendant, Thomas Ray Bright, who was released on bond.
Another defendant, Tara Wallin, was arraigned and released at a different time.
