50 yrs now a problem

I've been in Crofton for 25 years and live less than a mile from the track. I've never been distubed by the noise. Me and my kids actually enjoy guessing if it's cars or bike night. It's always been a part of the community and I don't understand how something that has been around for 50+ years is now a problem. The noise is something you adapt too just like the flight pattern of the planes heading to BWI. Would one buy a house next to a highway then ask to shutdown the highway and reroute the traffic? Perhaps those complaining would! Now if you can do something about the cranked up bass radio noise and loud mufflers on cars zooming up and down the streets at 2am I'd be open to hear your solutions for that.

If you heard it right away then why did you move there?
if you knew it was there from the start you should have moved elseware,do some research, this track is an icon for many very famous racers and has been a part of the comunity way before there were things called condos....if it bothers you that much than MOVE to the country club!

Rachael, you should of done your Research on the area,Crofton is not that big. wanting to close a place down thats been here for years where kids can go with their parents and have fun is Ridicules. I have been living here 21 years and never been there, and it Does not bother me or any of my neighbors, and we live close Hopkins and Reidel.
Doesn't matter. The noise has gotten worse and goes later than it should. Ever hear of disturbing the peace? There's also a lot more people here now and so few people that use the race track. Majority rules!

I have lived in the area for 20 years and I am convinced that the noise has gotten worse. When we first built our house (3 miles from the race track) we couldn't really hear the noise. Now it is downright disturbing. I am sure that the cars have bigger, louder engines that can be heard over a greater distance. Did we move here knowing there was a racetrack - sure. But the noise has gotten worse and we didn't sign up for that.

Also with all the idiot comments here saying "just move", sorry that's not reasonable given the housing market. Also this extremely large neighborhood has young children and infants. It affects them more than it does adults.
Also "Steve Edmonds" your comments are ignorant and downright foolish. Insulting people only makes your opinion worthless in the eyes of everyone reading these forums. Please go crawl back under the rock you came from...
The track has been here longer than piney orchard and most communities and golf courses so blame the noise on deforestation that made room for you and your petty complaints

There's just too many people complaining to the county at this point. With all the businesses and communities being built in the vicinity I'd be surprised if this track lasts a few more years. It's just the reality of what happens when development takes place...

It is 10:20pm. I live off Waugh Chapel are and can hear the track clear as day. Yes the track was here first but noise is noise. If I have a house party that gets too loud too late at night the cops get called. It's the same principle. The tracks are too loud this time of night. I would have no problem with them if they ended at 9:00pm but 11:00pm (I believe that is the current close time) is pushing it.

This information is for those that feel a drag strip has no business in the middle of a residential community. I know some people like the raceway and that's fine. Keep supporting it. For those that don't however, Capitol Raceway operates under the provisions granted to it under Bill 70-13 passed by the Anne Arundel County Council on 16 September 2013. The law clearly states that racing is prohibited after 11 pm on Friday and Saturday. If you hear it going on past 11, they are in violation of the ordinance and are breaking the law. Call the police. Ask that ownership be cited, document it, mobilize your friends and other like-minded individuals to do the same. Demand that the law be obeyed and report your concerns to the responding officer. Contact your representative.
Does ownership care that your kids can't sleep?
Do they care that the noise makes your dogs bark?
Do they care that you can't take a peaceful weekend stroll in your neighborhood?
I very much doubt it.
Majority rules, and I can tell you based on my community, the majority of people are fed up with the disturbance and pollution generated by this facility. Make change happen!

Moving into a home and then complaining about the racetrack is like living next to a train track and griping about the noise.

The raceway has been here a long time. It was built when there was little more than farmland surrounding it. The owners of the track have gone out of their way to be good neighbors; they've implemented several measures over many years to help drop the noise level.

Do you think it's fair to bully the racetrack owners simply because you live close to the track?

If you think it's okay to do so, then don't let me hear you gripe about how the US government treated native tribes--taking their land and forcing them (via "legal" means) to live on reservations.

Don't be so narrow-minded and selfish. It's not very neighborly--especially when you're the new person on the block.
