I have been in West York on and off since the 1950's, and I am sure glad they are keeping their own police force. I have nothing against regional police for the areas with little crime, but in busy areas that receive a lot of calls for service, regional departments just aren't the answer. West York must have taken a page from some of the other model police departments like Springettsbury, Spring Garden, West Manchester, and Hanover Borough. These areas learned long ago that they are much better served with their own professional departments. Sure professional police service is expensive, but you get what you pay for. If you have the luxury of living in an area where the crime and need for police services is low, regional police departments are fine. However if criminals are active near your area you need the professionals with the experience to deal with the busy caseloads working your area, and where response time is FAST. It's like seeing the school nurse if you have a cold, and using a heart specialist if you have a heart attack. Each provides a needed service, depending upon the level of service required. Busy areas like West York require high level service to meet the needs of the community. I am thankful that the citizens of West York are willing to step up and are not willing to compromise the level of police service they are accustomed to, and wish to maintain their fine police department. I hope that we never have to depend on a regional department, as I just don't think our safety needs would be met.

Whatever you do West York citizens don't trust that borough council. There's a group that will stop at nothing to get their own way, which is to force us into regional police and no fire department. Do your best to have Nancy, Steve, and Shane replaced. You know by now the mayor and those three, DO NOT have what's best for our community in mind, only what they want which is motivated by their own bitterness toward the borough's employees. So keep your eye on the prize West Yorkers, and don't let these clowns pull a fast one on you. Attend each and every meeting until your police and fire departments have signed contracts. I suspect the council will try to replace a vacancy with one of the two idiots who raised their hands at the last meeting, when the question was raised about not wanting to keep our police. Then they can make a motion to disband the police department and vote on it, with a majority. I learned at the last meeting that certain borough officals DO NOT care what we the people want. Good luck to the police and fire departments. I hope you can continue to keep us safe. Thanks for your excellent service, we appreciate all you do even if some of your council members don't.
