Controlling school district spending is actually simple. A group of individual who are committed to controlling spending must band together. It is best if this is 6 or 7 people. Register as independents. Circulate nomination papers to get on the ballot in November. (obtain them at the election office). Stand for election. There are nine members of a school board. Usually they are up for election in set of 5 in one general election and 4 seats in the next election 2 years later. If this is the 5 member year and the group wins 5 seats, they now control the spending of the district. If it is a 4 member election year, they can gain 4 seats. In 2 years they only need one more seat to control the board. Any district resident can run for the board. Many people complain. Few are willing to take the heat to change it. Big spenders count on controlling the board numbers to continue applying their philosophies to spending in schools. Perhaps the most important time to control the board is when the teacher and superintendent's contracts are in negotiation. You must lead this by the previous election. GEt the facts, take action.

School Matters is a website provided by Standard and Poors which offers deep insight into your district's spending and outcomes. http://www.schoolmatters.com/schools.aspx/q/p...

The new Open Records law gives residents the right to all financial information for your district. Go the the district's main office. Ask for copies of the teacher contract along with a financial statements of its costs over the length of the contract, superintendent and administration contracts, the most recent audit, the complete 08-09 & 2009-10 budgets. They can charge you for paper copies ($0.25 each page) ask for electronic copies of the docs to be emailed to your home or provide a USB thumb drive.
Armed with the facts, do your homework. ID the overspending. You can bring this to the attention of your community. Be forewarned this will ID you as a "trouble causer" and the union, current Board spenders & the administration will fight your election. It is best to not say much about the spending until after you are elected to the board.

Does not do any good writing anything in this comments section. Does not change anythng and the people who need to read these comments do not care and do not want to hear what you think. They all have there own agendas and will never affect them until there jobs are lost or they have to make sacrifices that affect there well being.
Lets all get real until we vote out all these unrealistic thinkers in both local and state levels.

All I need to know anymore is who to send my weekly paycheck to. We no longer work to better ourselves or save for our retirement years. We work to pay TAXES!!!!! So as citizens we just need to know who to sign our checks over to on a weekly basis????

It's time this country start to take care of its own. Billions of dollars are sent overseas that could be better spent in America's school systems!
