Doesn't it make the residents of Sesser feel good to know that even though you dutifully pay your taxes and bills, the city doesn't use the money to pay their bills?

Typical thieving government.

"Officials in Sesser claim they are being billed for water they are not receiving because the city water meter is bad, a claim that is disputed by the district."

Residents of Sesser, stop paying your water bills and use the excuse that you think your water meter is bad. See how far it gets you.

"The city of Benton claimed the district had overcharged it by $150,000, and after measuring the meter, it was determined there were no problems and the flow was accurate. However, the board decided to settle out of court with Benton for $37,000."

I'd expect that from the thieving scum in Benton government.

Since the city of Benton got off with $113,00.00 in water payments after it was found they were NOT overcharged, shouldn't the residents see that money applied towards their bills as credits? The residents still paid their full bills, then the city weaseled out of paying theirs.

I agree the responsible citizens of Benton should get credits on their water bills since the irresponsible city govt kept their money and failed to pay THEIR bills.
Gotta love that government subsidized theft, huh?

It's common practice to believe a reputable media organization above an anonymous name on a topix forum, dumbass.

Look who is calling who names. If you don't know alot of common practices have gotten us where we are today. Not in such good shape I would say. Also, in case you did not know there is a thing called negative press (which sells) and nine times out of ten people only hear and believe what they want to believe. Does not necessarily make it true. In my opinion usually it is what ever benefits them.

If the story were not true, the city of Benton would have complained or filed a lawsuit and the paper would have issued a retraction or a correction. None of that happened, the story is true and the dumbshit above is just upset that people are finding out the truth about the thieves in local government. Criminals hate it when their crimes garner public exposure. Right Mayor Kraft?

It's obvious that many on here who post do not know all the facts and just type anything to start trouble. The city has already paid this overbilled amount and now after they have proof, they are demanding a refund. Since Rend Lake will not admit an error in over billing, the city is withholding payment until it recoups the amount it is owed. I do not know what happened with Bentons problem but Sesser overbilling goes back many years. They have been trying to work with RLCD for over the past year and finally decided to withold payment. RLCD claim of an accurate meter is misleading, the new meter is fine. It is the older meter that the dipute is about that was changed well over a year ago...And RLCD has many fine people who work there, it is just something that will have to be decided in court if it gets that far..This is strait from a city council member. So they are trying to protect the interest of the people's money.
Know facts before just insulting the city..
