Russian engineers are very good at simplifying designs and making them functionally superior in many ways. The AK has wider tolerances which make it function well even under environmental stresses that would shut down a more sophisticated design.<quoted text>
Ah, yes! We Americans design expensive multi-purpose gold-plated, high-tech war toys which are so complicated that they are difficult to maintain and are always breaking down.
The Russians designed the AK-47 which never fails to shoot.
But not all of our more technically sophisticated developments have been flops obviously.
