I lost my brother to cancer and he had nothing in the way of insurance coverage. He lived in a small town but worked for a big box store called Maynard's, it's like Lowe's and they work him exactly at 39 hours a week so they wouldn't have to call him full time. Sure he had some kind of help from church charities.
How would that have helped him?
