As far as PURE athleticism goes, one of the most athletic kids to come through McNairy County in my time is playing for Adamsville right now. Jalen Kendall has a rare combination of size and athleticism that is rarely seen. Not to say he is or isn't a great player, but he has enough pure athleticism to play any of the big three sports nearly anywhere in the country. Not a whole lot of people to come through McNairy County can say that.

Not sure which records for softball she broke. Pretty sure she was by far not the best softball pLayer to come from there. Everyone has there opinion though. I agree with the other ones. Best softball players in my opinion where thecouple years before her. Could name a few. Some where always talked about by people as being good.

Jalen is talented but doesn't have the drive to play at the big schools. He's best known for basketball, but he's no where close to the best that's come through the county (Hoovers, Bingham, Walkers). I would love to see him get back on the football field and see what he could do.

You are absolutely correct. He does not appear to have the drive it takes to play big time ball, but that is all he is lacking. And yes, I think he would male a better baseball or football player than anything.

Tyrone Luster was one of the best running backs that mchs has ever seen!!!! He broke several records and I think he still holds some I know he used to.

There haven't been any great basketball teams since the 80's the Walkers, Averys, Bodiford, Davis, Windoms.

Finlyson would have to be the best football player.

Ross Shelton in baseball.

Girls softball would be the the George girl. They were awful last year without her.

Girls basketball would probably be Gilchrist but the Boehler girl has had the best college career.

The all time best all around athlete was probably Shelton. He excelled in 3 sports.

Shelton was a good kid, but no where near the quality of athletic ability of some of the basketball players to come through MCHS (Walkers, Bingham). As for baseball, there just have not been any at MCHS. I'd say his brother Scott Shelton was better. AHS has definitely produced more baseball talent - have to go with Massey there, who was drafted by the Cubs and played for Ole Miss & Tennessee. Finlayson was not the best footballer at MCHS, but he may have been the biggest. Many of the running backs mentioned were better than him (Miller, Luster, Crayton, Jones, Sanders). But again, for football, hard to argue against a state Mr. Football winner in Josh Carroll.

I've watched McNairy County sports since the late 50's. The best athlete ever to come out of McNairy County was Neal Walker. I think he only played basketball, but he was the fastest, strongest most athletically gifted kid I"ve ever seen. When he played, it was like a full grown man playing against boys. He did anything he wanted to out there and no one could stop him. T

There may have been somebody in the early 50's or before as good but I have not heard of them.

You can't compare Carroll to Finlayson. Carroll played single A ball and he and Adamsville never beat McNairy until Browder left and Browders last teams were his weakest. Finlayson actually played on a team that won the National Championship. There shouldn't even be a discussion.

Massey could be the best baseball player, fair enough.

I agree that the Walker's were the best, especially Neil. That team his senior year 83/84? was the best and most loaded team of all time.

Finlayson was not even the best fb player to come out of MCHS. His thing was size and that doesn't count for "athletic". Carroll was undersized for his position but led the state in tackles for 2 straight years - all classes. He was the only Mr. Football winner ever - MCHS has never had one. Browder has nothing to do with anything in this discussion. It's a good debate of Carroll vs. Finlayson, Kiser, Crayton, Luster, Miller or Jones.

Brianna Phelps???? Did you mean Brianna Holt? Brianna Phelps almost never even gets to play.

As far as football, Finlason is the only guy from McNairy County that actually got a National Championship ring. He actually played significant minutes on that team. No other football player should even be mentioned in the same breath as him
