Was this child in a car seat? I don't understand how something like this can happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the child was not restrained. There are many parents who don't restrain their kids - let alone themselves.

I live in a "nice" area and I know of a few parents (two of them cops) in the neighborhood who don't restrain their kids when they ride to and from school.

No car seat, no seat belt.

More than likely it was one of the Taxi Van that are very popular in that area. They execute their business on the bus lines.

I made the point to bring it up because people will undoubtedly start posting about how minorties don't buckle up their kids - that's because they think they're still living their disgusting countries.

I was actually going to make that sort of comment, but then I remembered the cop's car with his two kids and one neighbor kid in front of me the other day - two unbuckled kids were bouncing around all over the back seat and his son was unbuckled in the front seat.

From The Daily News:

"My baby! My baby!" the mother of Jamilet Sosa screamed as she cradled the lifeless girl in her arms about 1 p.m.

The girl was riding with her brother and 29-year-old mother in a Chevy minivan livery cab.

Not only should the mother should be charged, but the livery cab driver should also be charged.

Yes, it was.

Apparently, the mother thought livery vans magically protect little children from death.

I can imagine it and do imagine it.

Millions of other parents imagine it too ... and it's THE reason why we restrain our children.

yes its understandable and aplicable that kids should be restrained...what is unbearable is that all of you people talk with out knowing...not everything you here in the news is true..yes it was a mistake not to restrain jamilet...but its the little things that some parent has done even without intending to. You people have no shame and hearts to be talking the way you have...Im related to Jamilet and you people should b ashamed of yourselves for the things you say...yes its a free country...but to think about the real things that matter you people suck at it!

What is there not to understand about the situation?

The mother was negligent - there's no other way you can spin this.

First of all, the article was correct in stating the child was not restrained by the mother.

Does the mother have a car? Does the mother routinely get around via livery cab? If that's the case, this certainly CAN'T be the first time the child has been unrestrained in a vehicle.

Yup, I'm sure the article doesn't even go into half of the "little things" this mother has done.
