I went in with a 3 day trial pass to check the place out. A salesperson greeted me and sat me down. I answered a quick survey and hr gave me a quick tour and then sat me back down to discuss memberships. Fair enough, I assumed they had a sales pitch when you come in for a trial.
However, the salespeople I dealt with, especially the Sales Manager on duty, was very aggressive and almost insulting. I worked in sales for 5 years and I saw right through all the games they play with you, trying to get you to sign up for the most expensive contract then and there. Don't fall for it!
- They tell you the 50 dollars per month rate advertised online is not for NY but is a national average, and the rates are more here in NY. This is utter BS and they are just trying to rip you off. You can sign up online for 50/month.
- They tell you your guest pass has a number on it that has a coupon to get you a better deal. Yea, Ok. You are not getting a discounted rate. At this point they give you the 50 per month rate advertised online. What a deal! yea, right
- When the salesperson is "speaking to the manager" or the manager is "making a call for you", don't think they are doing you some favor. These are common sales tricks to lure you in, thinking you are getting a deal.
- When I made it clear, after the sales manager almost took my credit card out of my hand, that I did not want to sign up at the prices they were offering, the sales manager meanly said to the salesperson "That's it, I'm not making anymore phone calls for you today," I think this was supposed to make me feel bad for the salesperson, so I would be guilted into signing up. Overall these sales tactics insulted my intelligence and gave me a bad vibe.
The sad part is I guarantee these work on a lot of people who don't have the sales background I have. Know what you are getting yourself into with this sales department. The best deal I could get out of them was 1 year paid upfront at 550 dollars, with each consecutive year at 399. They've been calling me the past few days, probably offering me an even better deal.
