Homeless tent city sprouts in Hillsborough

Full story: www.tampabay.com

Eight months ago, Richard Shuster moved into what he calls his "gated community" - so named for the sagging gate between thickets leading to his camp site near Interstate 75. Before he lost his job as a welder, Shuster, 59, had a car and a rented room. Now he joins others like him, whose tents can be found in the woods in eastern Hillsborough County. The numbers are hard to pin down, but the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County thinks the number of homeless has been climbing in recent years. And they are pushing ever deeper into the eastern suburbs, officials say. Not long ago, the area was Hillsborough's boomtown, the epicenter of the housing bender. Then the housing market collapsed, restaurants closed, and skilled workers found themselves scrounging for a piece of a shrinking day labor pool. The homes they rented or owned fell into foreclosure. Their landlords, once forgiving over a late rent check, now resort to eviction.

So living in a tent and NO income is better than having a job below your standards?

A completely stupid argument!

and the guys with the signs beside the road that says "will work for food" actually want a job?

How can I have rat infested apartments and hire mexians when I am the Chairman of the Hillsborough County Republican Party? Seems kind of risky?

I do have a gift microwave for you and the Mrs. though.

And a case of Mac&Cheese!

It's easy to make fun of the homeless, and there are alo of dead beats out there, but that only makes it that much HARDER for the homeless who iether do want to work and get along but have lost thier way... either through hardship awful war and other experiences that haunt them, fits of anxiety, depression, addictions, alchololism, and the general feeling of worthlessness.
Many people who have been homeless do not tell people simply because they know they will be seen differently and judged. But it is important to remember that some people you would not expect off hand, have been homeless.

RESARCH 'NEW WORLD ORDER' FOLKS !!!!!, this is the 'real' reason AMERICA has been sold out, many don't know about the 'elite' who are destroying this country. I just read in my great highest taxed state of NJ that they want to pass a law where they call an industrial/commercial area residential ? why ? because there going to knock down the buildings where poor people live and make luxury offices/condos. This country think it can survive by not manufacturing products and outsourcing? IDIOT politicians . Is eveyone in this country thinking theyll be a lawyer/doctor? you NEED factories morons, how will peopl pay their bills.

This is the beginning, in the next few years the people making fun will be running for their lives, or joining the homeless.

We can't stop and cry over a few misfortunates. This isn't mayberry. We got to think about this countrys glorious FUTURE! This depression is just getting rid of the things that didn't work in the first place! Globablization. That's the future. In China, they're are MILLIONS of homless, but no body cares, because the well of people who have adjusted have high-in jobs, and live a modern, efficient life style. You can't hold back progress. AMerica is behind. We think we have room for everybody. People who think that way should move back to a farm and pretend it's 1942. But beware, that fasrm will, like it or not, soon become a subdivison. People want change!

I was homeless in Tampa no more than 2 years ago, and I can tell you it was hard to get out of. I wasn't on drugs, or abusing booz.

Slash up the tents and imprison/execute/maim all the homeless for trespassing and attempting to evade homelessness! People are to learn to either pay dearly permanently for shelter, or die on the street!
