1957 I think...

Daniele Dupre "Le Vieux Marin"

...one of the coolest videos I've ever found on YouTube!!!!

Daniele Dupre's 1957 Eurovision performance ("Tant de peine") is a must see also!

Eurovision 1957 Luxembourg Daniele Dupre "Tant de piene" (faded love)

video by escbelgium3

--another favorite happens to be 1966 Eurovision Michele Torr Luxembourg "Ce Soir Je T'Attendais"...

...interesting because in 1990 I stood outside Calais, France w/ a hitchhiking sign "LUXEMBOURG" attempting to visit my brother there. The ferry was shut down three days or so, fierce winds, waves, rain blowing sideways as I stood there holding that sign.

Unable to find a lyrics/translation of the song, so uabl to figure out the songs meaning, but looks like the title transates as "The Ancient Mariner", and found a 1931 recording w/French photos...

The pose Daniele Dupre strikes during the pause in the song (le vieux marin) at 1:05 is classic--would love to have an 8X10 of that.

Love Daniele Dupre's Eurovision performance also. Hopefully more videos of hers will appear on YouTube--sometimes that happens, at first there are not very many but then after awhile you go back and more have been posted.

I had a feeling...a version of the song (le vieux marin) by Leo Ferre appeared on YouTube and that set off some bells since his song that Dalida sang (avec le temps), if understanding online lyric translation correctly, was about moral anarchy. When running le vieux marin through online translation, the songs content doesn't seem too good either, and then it ends with explicit profanity. How did Gogol say it in 'The Cloak'? Something like, ah, those French...what can you say? lol

And some good came out of this debacle after all...with a librarian's help, directed to an online lyrics site that translates...so here is my favorite song of the past 4-5 years of viewing YouTube (all this time never knew anything about the lyrics....these are not perfect, you can tell, but give a pretty good idea of the songs meaning):

Michele Torr 1966 Eurovision "Ce Soir Je T'Attendais") video by EuroRainbow

The wind may well shake the branches
On the street the flaps are closed
On a white tablecloth
Some roses bend
On a canopy erected for two
The melody that you prefer
Rests on the edge of the piano
Everything is ready I hope
I have nothing more to do
That opening because I hear your step
And you are but am not surprised air

Chorus:
Because I knew and I was waiting for you
Tonight I was waiting for you
I was so sure that you would come
Yes I knew and I was waiting for you
Tonight I was waiting for you
Find more similar lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.com/hbsgI had reason to hope for you

We have made much trouble
It is left for a few words
It's ancient history
I know you love me
This is why I watched your steps
And I am here before you
For the arm
to the chorus

Yes I knew and I was waiting for you
Tonight I was waiting for you
To keep you all never
Yes I knew and I was waiting for you
Tonight I was waiting for you
Tonight I expect you!
