We went to the grand opening of My Dobro (formerly Players in Cottonwood). Great to see some Sedonaites hangin' there enjoying the rock/blues live music. Food is great and the place is pretty cool for those nostalgic for yesteryear, something Cottonwood is really catching on to and Sedona lacks. Now Cottonwood has a new music venue and it's easy to get to from Sedona---My Dobra what a classic name too!

That is great to hear so now we have a new place to gig at up there. Nothing in Cottonwood except dive bars like the Chapparel or Strombolis, cheers to My-Dobro!

I don't know. Maybe I'll have to try again. I must say I only like the Spirit Room around here! These new places like the Main Stage and here just don't seem to get how to treat locals!

Suzy I agree, the Main Stage won't be around for long, it is not managed properly and is trying to serve folks outside of our community. My Dobro is more local and the owner Mickey is such a kind and friendly, so is his wife! They actually care about the locals...and the food's pretty good too!

Well, I tried My Dobro again and have to say I disagree. I found the food to be average and the music not quite as good as Main Stage or Spirit Room. Its more of a family establishment than a music venue.

Different strokes for different folks I guess!

I disagree, especially with Geminigal:

Main Stage brings in local artists and lets them sell their art for no charge, unlike darn near any artfair I've ever seen. They also have had quite a few local bands whom I like including The Chromatics and The Help. Some Sedona ones too.

The 1st Fridays things they do get hundreds of people out there and everyone seems to have a real good time.

Its a music venue like I've seen in cities like Portland or San Fran or even New York and I think we're are quite lucky to have it in Northern Arizona!

They're just doing something different and that makes people freak out I guess.

I agree with Gemini because the cottonwood police keep showing up at the Main Stage and that ain't good for business. I agree with Suzy on My Dobro's food selection, kinda weak, even after the owner claims he hired a high profile regional chef to run his kitchen. Yes, very family friendly, which will attract a much more broader crowd. Only time will tell for both.

Thrice in the last 5 months friends and I have visited the Verde Valley for motorcycle rides, wine tasting and to experience live music. Last year we ventured north once. It's just an 1 1/2hr ride from our homes in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Before the cultured experiences we now find in the restaurants wineries and tasting rooms of Old Town, and Paige Springs and the atmosphere and music now found at Main Stage, the Verde Valley was just a day ride for us. Those of us from the Valley of the Sun can now get away to cooler climates, pine trees, beautiful day hikes and rides, and have options. Sometimes my better half and I like to keep our leathers on and mix it up at the Rockin' B or the Chaparral. In all the years we (sometimes a group of 5-25 riders) have been making the "beat the heat, do something different" journey we had limited options. A few weeks ago we ate an amazing meal at School House and then dressed up and listened to a "local" artist Robin Dean Salmon at Main Stage, bought his CD and spent the night at the Little Daisy. The next morning we had Bloody Mary's at My Dobro. Nice place, friendly as can be staff, eclectic decor and a killer kids room that's once again another option for us in the Valley when the kids have to tag along. All I can say is I remember the resistance to change my Grandparents had in Cave Creek when most roads were dirt. Change is inevitable, We (family and friends) are now extended fans of Cottonwood, they treat us well up here at all the bars, and they treat us right at your new Music Venue, and your new Family Style Restaurant. How are you as locals (are you wearing regional name tags) being treated any different from us visitors? As a weekend rider and Professor of Philosophy, I can honestly say..."We are all prone to think there is something wrong with the mental processes of those who disagree with us." With that said, I say to you "locals" embrace your community, say only something if it is positive, and grow up, for a great Philosopher once sang, "For the Times They are a Changin'!"

Couldn't agree more WineLoverAZ and VValley Visitor!

It's a shame there is not a lot of support from locals on here for small businesses trying to do their part in bringing something new and innovative to their community.

I for one have waited a long time for a quality music venue in this area, and I couldn't be happier to have Main Stage as a part of our community to bring great local and touring music acts alike. The owners are legit, the staff is great and the drinks are good with reasonable prices. Thank God Cottonwood is finally stepping up. My Dobro may be a far cry from a music venue but it's a kid friendly restaurant with decent food and lord knows this area can use that as well. So thank you to both for bringing new to the town. And for anyone who sits around criticizing and trying to bring down others trying to make a living and do well for our community, please get a life!
