check this out!
Subject: SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!
You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona , who painted the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb and eat bologna sandwiches.
Oh, there's MUCH more to know about Sheriff Joe!
Maricopa County was spending approx.$18 million dollars a year on stray animals. Sheriff Joe offered to take the department over, and the County Supervisors said okay.
The animal shelters are now all staffed and operated by prisoners. They feed and care for the strays. Every animal in his care is taken out and walked twice daily. He now has prisoners who are experts in animal nutrition and behavior. They give great classes for anyone who'd like to adopt an animal. He has literally taken stray dogs off the street, given them to the care of prisoners, and had them place in dog shows.
The best part? His budget for the entire department is now under $3 million. To adopt a Weimaraner from a Maricopa County shelter you get - neutered, and current on all shots, in great health, and even had a microchip inserted. Cost $78.
The prisoners get the benefit of about $0.28 an hour for working, but most would work for free, just to be out of their cells for the day. Most of his budget is for utilities, building maintenance, etc. He pays the prisoners out of the fees collected for adopted animals.
He has a huge farm, donated to the county years ago, where inmates can work, and they grow most of their own fresh vegetables and food, doing all the work and harvesting by hand.
He has a pretty good sized hog farm, which provides meat, and fertilizer. It fertilizes the Christmas tree nursery, where prisoners work, and you can buy a living Christmas tree for $6 -$8 for the Holidays.
Yup, he was reelected last year with 83% of the vote.
Now he's in trouble with the ACLU again. He painted all his buses and vehicles with a mural, that has a special hotline phone number painted on it, where you can call and report suspected illegal aliens. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement wasn't doing enough in his eyes, so he had 40 deputies trained specifically for enforcing immigration laws, started up his hotline, and bought 4 new buses just for hauling folks back to the border.
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO
HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights Cut off all but 'G' movies.
He took away cable TV Until he found out there was A Federal Court Order that Required Cable TV For Jails So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again . Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.
He Cut Off Coffee Since It Has Zero Nutritional Value. When the inmates complained, he told them,'This Isn't The Ritz/Carlton...... If You Don't Like It, Don't Come Back.'
The Associated Press Reports:
About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire-Surrounded Tent Encampment At The Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued Pink Boxer Shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 Degrees Inside The Week Before.
Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS.
'It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,' Said James Zanzot, An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year.'It's Inhumane.'
Sheriff Joe told all of the inmates:'It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too, And They Have To Wear Full Battle Gear,
But They Didn't Commit Any Crimes,So Shut Your Mouths!

Here is the answer to the stray animal problem.... Human Society....here you go!

Also this might help overcrowding at the jail.

Why can't this be done in every county? In our county????

He's a good man! Sounds like somethings I would do. But when it comes to him being my dad, I would hate it. I bet he would think of the worst punishment ever! My daddy never ever grounded any of us. My parents don't believe in that.
It would be great

i have stated this before. i even contacted the sheriff about
it. a few years ago. as you know, nothing has changed here. but you gotta hand it to sheriff joe.
if this country were run according to him, we would be a happy, healthy, crime free country.
and we need to ship the ACLU out of the country.
the curse of america. a total bunch of incompetents.
the above letter, written by "is this for real", should be read at the city councel meeting tuesday night, and kait should be notified to be there to report it.(never happen!).
that was a great story. and informative.
i,for one,did not know that you HAD to furnish cable tv to jailbirds!
there are hard working, decent people, people that have never broken a law in their lives, that can't afford cable tv.
one thing that the poster above didn't mention is that these convicts, like everywhere else in america, are affored the oppertunity to get a great education, even college,if they so desire.
hell,jail doesn't look to bad now,does it?
you go,joe!
and to "are you for real", a really great post.

This is great. Since when should prisoners have rights. That's BS. They violated someone elses rights in the first place, they should not have any rights except food, water, and maybe medical care. This man is doing a service that many states, including Arkansas should learn from. We are in an economic turmoil in this country. This guy cuts his budget by that much and people complain.

If making the prisoners wear pink and surrounding them with pink will teach them not to commit crimes, then do it.

ok I had to comment on this because I was thinking of starting a thread on this myself. I had a friend in Craighead County jail this week for approx 24 hours. When I went and picked him up he said "that wasnt as bad as I thought we just sat around, slept and played cards." That is bs! While I was sitting there waiting for them to process paperwork I seen a custodian guy come out (which was not an inmate) and get the things he needed to mop and vacumn. Why are we paying someone to clean the jail and mow the yard when all those inmates are just sitting in there sleeping and playing cards. As I sat and watched video court earlier I don't recall seeing one first-timer. All of them were in there for a multiple time. Most of them made excuses like "I couldnt attend my life skills class b/c I was incaracerated at the time" or "I can't get it done by that date b/c when I get out of Craighead, I have time to sit in Poinsett." That is crazy! If that place was made to be a place they didnt want to return then maybe there wouldnt be so many repeat offenders.

Just wondering, but how many of you have actually read up on this guy, specifically the number of cases where he's been sued for death or disability due to negligence? How many cases of positional asphyxiation have happened on his watch? How many cases has he settled outside of courts with victim's families?

Has he been sued for abuse of power in other realms? What about the Phoenix Times? Why did they win a Pulitzer for reporting that crime and response times have increased during this guy's term? How do the courts feel about it?

I'd suggest some of you stop buying the hype and read up on the guy. The information is rather easy to find, and he's not the urban hero he pretends to be.

If two post show up from me I apologize because I typed one and it never showed to post. I have a problem with our jail system too. I had a friend in there overnight this week and when I went to pick him up the next day he said "wow, that wasnt as bad as I thought. All we did was sat around, slept and played card." That is ridiculous! Why I was waiting for paperwork to be processed a custodian came out to get the things he needed to mop and vacumm (and he was not an inmate). Why are we paying someone to do this when all those inmates are sitting there soaking up the cold air playing cards? Also as I sat earlier in video court I was surprised at the number of repeat offenders that there excuse was "I couldnt attend my life skills or pay my fines because I have been in jail for some other reason" It was crazy. If the Sheriff would make jail a tougher place to be we might not have as many people who want to go back there and get free meals, air condition and get to sit on their a** all day and play cards.

Correction to myself, it was East Valley Tribune that won a Pulitzer for a series investigating Arpaio.

On a more funny note, you should read up on the beef he's been starting with Shaq. LOL

well if they died or abused then they got what they needed to get. jail should not be a country club.

Well no, of course not. They are in prison, and should have restricted access to most luxuries.

However, I do think they deserve to be able to breath when in restraint chairs. Do you perchance know how many people have died under their "watch" from positional asphyxia and negligence? Sure you can say they were criminals, but how can you know what they were guilty of? He goes over the top with actual abuse.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Scorpio

A loved one is extremely upset today, and you'll soon know all about it. Things are out of proportion, so a minor hitch becomes a huge drama that means you've got to drop everything in order to calm them down. Hey ho. At least it won't last long. If you're doing some last-minute Christmas shopping, you won't have as much patience as usual and nor will anyone else.
