Mine is laying here right now, curled up beside my new 13 week chihauhau. Yea, they are vicious, let me tell you.. dumbass.. Any animal can attack. There are horrible people that do terrible things to and with animals. Breed doesnt matter, but how an animal is raised can make a world of difference. I also have a pit that was rescued from fighting, and he is the most loving lap dog you could find, despite his past.

google the history of pit bulls they are bred for fighting
American Pit Bull Terrier

The American Pit Bull Terrier is the product of interbreeding between terriers and a now-extinct breed of bulldogs to produce a dog that combined the gameness of the terrier with the strength and athleticism of the bulldog. These dogs were initially bred in England, Ireland, and Scotland, and arrived in the United States with immigrants from these countries. In the United States these dogs were used as catch dogs for semi-wild cattle and hogs, to hunt, to drive livestock, and as family companions;[1] however, some were selectively bred for their fighting prowess,[2] and starting in the early 20th century, they began to replace the bull terrier as the "dog of choice" for dog fighting in the United States.[3]

The United Kennel Club (UKC) was the first registry to recognize the American Pit Bull Terrier. UKC founder C. Z. Bennett assigned UKC registration number 1 to his own dog, "Bennett’s Ring", as an American Pit Bull Terrier in 1898.[1]

American pit bull terriers today successfully fill the role of companion dog, police dog,[4][5][6] and therapy dog;[7] however, American pit bull terriers in general have a higher tendency towards dog aggression[8] and constitute the majority of dogs used for illegal dog fighting in the United States.[9] The fighting reputation of pit bull-type dogs led the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in 1996 to relabel pit bull terriers as "St. Francis Terriers" (not to be confused with the "Terrier" mascot of St. Francis College in New York) so that they might be more readily adopted;[10] 60 temperament-screened dogs were adopted until the program was halted after several of the newly adopted dogs killed cats.[11] The New York City Center for Animal Care and Control tried a similar approach in 2004 by relabeling their pit bull terriers as "New Yorkies", but dropped the idea in the face of overwhelming public opposition.[12][13]

I don't trust any dog that is bigger than a 5 year old child. Just a general rule of thumb.

I have owned pit bulls in the past, but they are too much work,I myself will never own a dog that is big enough to kill someone. The problem is the owners ,not the dogs. People just want a tough looking dog without considering the fact that this breed of dog must be socialised and kept under control at all times, a fence is a must have, and in the case of more aggressive dogs(males) it is usually a good precaution to have them chained up even in a fenced yard when you are not there to supervise them. Another problem with pit bulls today is inbreeding,it leads to dogs having extreme aggression issues.

I have two pit bull rescues a german shepherd and two chihuahuas... the only thing you have to worry about in my house is the chihuahuas! I have been rescueing and fostering pit bulls for a very long time and the thing about this breed is that they are so loyal they will be whatever their owners want them to be!! The owner wants a fighter thats what they get.. My boyfriend uses one of ours as a hunting dog.. I use them as a cozy pillow on a cold night because they are the least viscous dog I have ever encountered! I have fostered many many dog breeds and never once have i gotten bit by a pit bull, all of my bites were from breeds that have a very good rep because the media doesn't report every time a child gets mauled by there labrador or poodle! If anything needs shot and killed its the ignorant irresponsible owners!! Yall are looking at the WRONG end of the leash to be pointing fingers

I had a border collie that bit everyone that came in my yard. Mostly just nipped back of ankles, but got worse as she got older. My pit will put on a big show like a mean dog when someone knocks on the door, but her tail wags so hard when I open the door, that her body dances.
.
I was attacked by a white german shepard when I was a kid. My grandpa had told me not to go back there, but I was kinda hardheaded I guess. I didnt do anything to provoke him, was just walking in the yard.
.
When my house burned down last year, I was injured, and my pit stayed by my side. I was freaking out because I was begging for help when I saw skin hanging on my arm, but the cops were just yelling at me, threatening to shoot my dogs. My labs had run off down the block somewhere, but my pit stayed between me and the cops, never once snarling, just watching, until the unequipt medic one showed up, then she nudged herself under my good arm while they poked and proded me. She got her whiskers burnt off bc she even ran back in the house with me when I was trying to put the fire out. I wouldnt trade her for the world.

I have a pit bull. And I love her to pieces she is spoiled rotten along with my weiner dog. They love starbursts! Haha. My pit is not mean and wldnt hurt no one unless u was tryin to hurt her or me! Which is a good thing. But she isn't being raised to fight or be mean! my weiner dog is meaner than she is. Its all in how they r raised! Take a look around times have changed not everyone owns a pit to make them a killer dog..

They don't deserve that! Just because people do not know how to raise an animal doesn't mean the whole breed should be shot in the head! That's ubsurd!

My pit will put on a big show like a mean dog , What are you going to tell someone when it's not a show any more and and someone gets bad hurt or killed?? Put it down before this happens.

So u r saying that when u have a dog that " puts on a show" we shld put them down because theu r playful and like to play rough sometimes anx that's not just a pit that's virtually any dog.. So we should just put them down?
