The death penalty is not a deterrent. It's a punishment. And a fine one. People who get the dirt nap never kill again. It's simply protecting society from the sick and evil.

If the death penalty is used only on public officials who violate their oaths, such as lying cops, then you're quite correct.

i think they need to move it along a little faster. if there is a DNA link plus eyewitnesses, kill them.
i am so sick of these damn criminals whining about how they have rights. what about the people they kill? did they NOT have rights?
i think if you are a big enough boy (or girl) to dish it out, you should be able to take it.
and stop wasting electricity with the chair. kill them the same way they killed.
the only person on death row that i think is innocent is a woman in texas. her name is darlie routier. she got a piece of crap trial and they won't give her a new one. i think the reason they won't is because they know they screwed the pooch on this one and they don't want to look like a bunch of idiots.
i was watching a show on one of the news channels the other night. it was about prison life. these inmates were whining about the food. the lack of food. the taste of the food. the size of the cells. the items they are not allowed to have. the surprise inspections of their cells.....you name it and they were whining like little girls about it.
all of these men had commited murder. so that gets me to wondering........
who the hell do they think they are? are they sonmething special that they can go out and rob, rape and kill decent people? hell no. they are the scum of the earth and they should be removed from the earth.
they get caught and convicted and then want to whine because of food and living quarters. well, boo hoo. maybe if they could have managed to be decent people they wouldn't have ended up there.
it's called PRISON. it's not a playground. you are not supposed to be having fun and getting anything you want. if it were up to me they would get a couple of stale peanut butter crackers 3 times a day and a cup of water to wash it down with.
they need to change the whole prison system. they need to make it so bad that they actually think before doing something stupid and going to prison.
they need to forget about their so called rights. no more going outside. no more tv. no more movie night. don't let them out of their cell. let them live with the likes of themselves 24/7. they would probably end up killing themselves. and that would be bad how??
Well someone has too much hate inside them, haha. Okay so first, why would you say "kill them like they killed their victims" (Have you heard/read this famous line "NO cruel or unusual punishment"?) And of course I would put myself in the position of the family's victim, for example, if my child gets raped and killed it would be FABULOUS if they kill the SAME way the killer, but let's be real, THAT'S NOT POSSIBLE! The only thing "closer" to that is letting them live and let their thinking kill them inside-- one day or another they'll regret it (unless their MENTALLY ILL) However, if they ARE mentally ill, then why the hell would you kill them? It's obvious that they went through something harsh in their life that made them that way (and no I'm not saying their innocent) It's like one convict once said: "If you kill me, that won't make you any better then me". Ugh... so the system is KILLING the KILLER to prove that KILLING is wrong? They prefer to execute that "individual" to please the society and the victim's family? It makes no freaking sense!!! Putting them to death is like letting them get away with it.
And I agree with the fact that they do complain about the food, the place, etc. But yes! That's not compared to what they REALLY deserve and this is why I think they shouldn't have death penalty in the system...(not because it's cruel and unusual punishment, but I believe it's the opposite of that, like I said before...) Their also wasting a lot of money on it, paying the execution, burying them (they even have a NICE cemetery here in Texas, unfair much? Haha) I don't think they knew what we were gonna have to deal with nowadays when they wrote the "NO cruel or unusual punishment", cause we need it now!

Back to what I said. Circumstances of mental state notwithstanding, intentional murderers, especially multiple ones, need to be executed. It's a punishment. Nobody is judging their mental state, their motives, or anything else. The simple concrete fact is that this person committed a large number of killings, and death is the only proper course of action at this juncture. They cost too much to feed and house for decades, and their continued existence simply torments the families of the deceased. And the "Kill to prove killing is wrong" argument is bunk. We imprison people for life for killing. So would you say, "Slavery to prove killing is wrong " makes any more or less sense? The things we do to murderers are all unpleasant and, under all other circumstances, illegal. Death without imminent mortal threat due to criminal offenses and imprisonment are the priveleges of the state that regular people would obviously be jailed for. Think about it.

I'm not saying that their innocent if their mentally ill either, but I disagree how MOST of the PEOPLE tend to react to what they feel pity for... in my criminal justice course in college, my professor mention how one time a police "accidently" (if you can say it that way), killed a pregnant women (AND her baby) with a taser, Unfortunately the police officer didn't know she was pregnant at the moment of the arrest. HOWEVER, people began judging him and protesting that he should get the death sentence for killing two human beings. But have the people thought that as a police officer, when you need to use the taser you're not gonna be asking "Ma'am! Are you pregnant? Do you have any heart problems? Because i'm gonna use the taser now!" I mean, come on! Society has this kind of reactions! Also, the justice has MANY times mistakenly death sentence several men that at the end turned out to be innocent! Sadly that kind of evidence arrives just at the moment when the individual is feet down ground.
And I don't know why they say that death penalty "decreases" cime, it doesn't. RESEARCH IT! Crime rates are NOT lowering down because their killing them. And yes, I agree that the family's victim does live with fear that he might come back or something. But I'd rather know his living and with my DAUGHTER/SON (or whatever person he killed) in mind and I know that guilt will be killing him inside (Youtube it, google it, etc and you'll find out how many convicts feel guilty for their crimes).

Actually, as I said, it's not a deterrent, IT'S A PUNISHMENT. And I wasn't referring to the victim's family being physically afraid, I was referring to the pain of knowing the he lives while their loved one does not. Guilty feelings only really apply to perpetrators of Passionate or negligent crimes. Statistically speaking, most serial killers are completely remorseless. Just reference Gacy's final words.

P.S. Jess-

You have pretty good trains of thought. Not totally accurate by my way of thought, but still interesting. However, you sound like a run on sentence, and your syntax and grammar are not so good. Slow down. Take your time while typing. It makes these forums much more enjoyable. I really mean this as positive crit.
