Developers find outspoken ally on City Council

Full story: Vallejo Times-Herald

Especially in tough economic times, Vallejo's major developers should be worked with rather than told to leave, City Councilwoman Marti Brown said Tuesday night.

Thank you Marti I voted for you because of your experience as a senior planner and as a voice for those of us who live here. You've exceeded my very high expectations Tuesday night.Well done...!

The last thing we need is another law suit while in bankruptcy.I know the mayor has represented other developers in this town in his capacity as an attorney. His clients are drooling at the opportunity to take this project over.

I've personally seen Triads work in Washington and know community members who worked with triad in Seatle. They do good work, have positive outcomes and worked well with community activists as well as city council members. They seem to be a good fit for this town.

Our mayor takes care of his own at the expense of the taxpayer. His delay in filing bankruptcy cost the city more than a million dollars a month.Giving cops a 10 percent raise while the city is in bankruptcy has forced us to fire more cops.He just spends, shoots off his mouth and protects his wallet at our expense.
Thank you ...Marti, for representing the rest of us.

Craig Whittom "matter of performance on a contract."

Spoken like a true city staff loser!

If the City Council and City Administrators were help to this expectation, they would have been removed from office years ago! They, along with VIB drewls, have destroyed Vallejo!

Vallejo has painted itself into a corner that it will not be able to escape from for 25 years! COngratulations DUMMIES!

Vallejo is doomed.

This is exactly how it starts, developer contributes to political campaign, elected official advocates for them. Same same with union money, there's no difference, just different players with the same objective down the road,$$$.
Let's see some voluntary caps in the next election? Not a peep, and I don't expect one.

Brown's an idiot. Instead of whining about why Triad wasn't "treated" like Callahan de Silva, she should be urging that they both - along with Lennar - be booted out for non-performance. She's concerned about "attorney's fees"? Why isn't she concerned about all the city money that's been shoveled into these developer's bank accounts over the past decade - money that's yielded ABSOLUTELY NOTHING? Get a clue, lady.

Are we talking about working with Lennar and Triad who are absolutely ineffective in commercial and industrial developments? Should we also look for alternatives instead of working with incompetents?

"I voted for you because of your experience as a senior planner..." Apparently, "experience as a senior planner" means "I know how to get developers to pick up my lunch tab."

Finally, somebody is stepping up for the people of Vallejo. I don't think out mayor has a clue as to what is going on in this city. When is his term over.

The problem with Vallejo are explicitly illustrated here. The problem with Vallejo is Vallejoans. They can only join together when there is something to be against.

In the last 15 years other cities have had much success developing downtown, water front and closed military bases, while Vallejo(ans) have done nothing but bicker back and forth while the city crumbles.

With the current political and administrative structure, Vallejo will never catch up. So keep complaining and whining while other cities lure business and revenue for the good of their citizens.

I find to somewhat concerning that Marty Brown was one of the members of the waterfront coalition, a group that stopped the Callahan- de Silva project, and now because she is a puppet of Gomes ( who had personal ties with Triad) she want to also pull Callahan- de Silva into this mess with Triad. Hmmm I guess speical interest in everywhere.

Hello everybody, Triad just want their deposit back, thats it. They are not capable of delivering what's on their contract. Do not get excited.

Marti Brown and VIB's included as ney sayers during the early inception of re-developement plan.
Which caused all the delays!!!!

Throw all of the bums out.

It seems that everyone has forgotten that Osby was DeSliva lawyer. Why aren'y you racking Osby over the coals for his ineptness and conflict of interest. The waterfront plan was poorly done and DeSilva is not a particularily good developer. Its 12 years and he is still dealing with conceptual plans. But since he is a GOB lets throw money at him.

I am also not a fan of Triad. They got rich off of Hiddenbrooke and left a pile of problems for the residents to deal with.Kurt Johanessens greatest gift is telling people what they want to hear. The downtown folks thought he was their savior and bought his glib taslk. But Triad is like most developers--they primarily care about making money, not what is necessarily in Vallejo's best interest.

As to Lennar. Vallejo has been screwed by them ,no matter what anyone in City Hall says. Some of the blame should be put on the City Managers and city councils who did not make Economic Development of Mare Island the highest priority. Mayor Tony is typical. I was at a meeting where he admitted he didn't realise how hard and how much effort was required to redo Mare Island.

I can only find where Brown took a non monetary donation from TRIAD, and nothing for Gomes. Got a link to prove claimed ties? Isn't it true that the great and omnipotent Ozz worked for Callahan DeSilva?

You got that right. Concerned about lawyer costs in another lawsuit? Helllo? Some would say Triad is using scare tactics, but Brown advocates for them regardless. Sorry I voted for you, Marti, really, never again. I thought you were different, I hate being duped!

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Virgo

It's a rather low-key day with a few disappointments to cope with along the way. If you were looking forward to a social event, such as meeting up with friends, it may fail to live up to your expectations. It might even be delayed or postponed through no fault of your own. There could also be problems about how much something is going to cost, forcing you to scale down your plans to make them more affordable.
