I will turn 65 this January. Speaking as one of the first baby boomers, I want to say that the last comment in this article made by al-Khansa was remarkable. To see a younger professional give respect and value to someone older than themselves brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for your practical and touching article! This one needs to be referred to again and again as time goes on into the "baby boomer era"!

Geriatric Medicine Fails to go beyond chemical treatments and the tough sh%t that's part of aging. The failures called the American medical community basically sedate and over medicate. They fail to understand the need for geriatric fitness and nutrition. They fail to recognize the fact they don't have enough data with the senior community because they frequently write off the cause of death as their last known disease. Geriatric medicine is new and strange territory and simply IS lost. But they ACT like they know. This is one show I don't want any part of.

Mr. Moody of AARP should let these Generalists who do not have the quality training of a real Doctor administer care to him and his family. I don't see that happening! After reading his opinion any senior who considers AARP is heading for trouble. It appears they do not think the elderly are worth getting quality healthcare. They forget most have worked and paid. Now if seniors did not have to pay anything not even one dime for this lower level healthcare that would be another story and we know that won't happen. Why isn't this forced onto the never worked a day in their life welfare citizens? They have more choices than people who have worked all their life.

The seniors are forgotten by society as a whole. Partly because of the laze fare just make the comfortable approach.

People live too long even if by chemical and surgical manipulation to have a laze fare approach to life.

That means the Geriatric medical community AND the seniors themselves must take more initiative for their own health.

Both the Geriatric "medical" community and seniors need a boot camp on non chemical and surgical proactive self help health programs. That means nutrition, vitamins and FITNESS. PRO ACTIVE. SELF help. A docTORs prescription is not the only road to health.

Ooops, no money in that. No production line mail it in cya billing & treatment.

You don't use it be prepared to lose it!
