I have a 14 year old, small dog. He has been drinking lots of water and peeing a lot. He is loosing control of his bladder and throwing up after he drinks a lot of water. Does anyone know if these are signs of kidney failure, if there is a way to cure it, or what else it might be?

There are many causes of renal disease, and they may include:

Viral, fungal, or bacterial infections
Amyloidosis (caused by abnormal deposits of a certain type of protein in the kidney)
Autoimmune diseases
Toxic reaction to poisons or medications
Congenital and inherited disorders

Pets with kidney disease can show a variety of physical signs. Some of the signs are nonspecific and may be seen in other disorders such as liver or pancreatic diseases, or urinary tract disorders not involving the kidneys. Signs may include:

Increased water consumption (polydipsia)
Increased urination volume (polyuria)
Decreased urination (oliguria)
Lack of urination (anuria)
Voiding urine during the night (nocturia)
Blood in urine (hematuria)
Decreased appetite (anorexia)
Weight loss
Hunched over posture or reluctance to move
Poor or unkempt hair coat

Sounds like he may be developing diabetes. Get him checked by a vet.

The Harding Grad hit BullsEye!
Your hound most likely is suffering from doggy diabetes. I'e seem hounds with an insatiable desire to drink water. They will bloat and become lethargic.
See a Vet. Prognosis is usually negative. But 14 years of love and companionship is worth trying. God bless and good luck!

I gave my dog twice daily insulin shots for 6 years. Easy to learn and the dog led a near normal life.

It's Prolly the stuff above, but rat poisons does the same thing to an animal. And since it's getting cold and mice are trying to come in peoples houses now, just thought I'd throw that out there. Hope ur pet gets better!

As well if the dog isn't keeping water down, depending how long after he could have a hiatal hernia. But with a dog that old be careful my moms dog is 14 and she kept wetting herself not bad it would just kinda leak a little and we gave her antibiotics and they did her worse. We have to home cook her food and everything bc she's so old and doesn't have teeth anymore.
