Its time

Wouldn't it be nice to have an old downtown with nice bars and restaurants. It sure would rejuvinate our crappy downtown. Everyone says Harding would not let this happen, I think it's time to stand up against the ruling minority and for the silent majority to take a stand.

you got my vote,Everything has its pro's and con's.I think it would be safer to have stores right here instead of someone already drunk driving to the next county, though they shouldnt be drving at all it happens. As for bars Im one to drink at home, don't much care for them, but I would love to order a drink when I eat without going to little rock to do so.

Sure keep it dry & give the other counties the taxes! That way we get all the trash on road sides & nothing else.

If you really want a wet county, you have to sober up and do some hard work. Start with a petition drive to get the issue on the ballot. Then try to make your valid points to the voters (i.e. losing taxes to other countys, less drunk drivers, etc). Then try to fight the powers against you (not just the churches, but the liquor store owners in nearby wet counties, the private clubs, and even the boot-leggers).

Yes, it would be nice and probablysafer too to see White county go wet like the rest of the civilized nation.
But Harding, and those other fundamentalist churches would have a cow. Make that ten cows, if it was even brought up. They love imposing their silly beliefs and tastes on everybody else.

Once a county is voted dry, it will always be dry. You cannot revote and make it wet or petition the city officals and government.

Yes, White County CAN be voted wet, and with the new oil company smart people here and finally some intelligent folks not bound up in the bible it would probably pass. White county needs to get out of the dark ages and grow, quit stagnating and letting harding college calling all the shots and keep it down. Move on with progress! A drink with a meal isn't going to send anybody to hell.

About saying that once a county is voeted wet or dry it can't be changed: It can't be changed. I've heard it from city officals. Sure, restaruants can try to get a liquor license but you aren't gonna see any liquor stores pop up in white county ever.

"Guest" and "I am Human" are mis-informed. A wet county CAN be voted wet again! Baxter County (Mountain Home) was voted wet in the 80's after being dry for years, then voted dry again, then voted wet again. First step: get it on the ballot. Will it ever pass in White County? Probably not.
"Human", who are the "city officials" that you get your BS from? Also, even in a wet county, a jurisdiction, i.e. city or township, can be voted dry (see Jacksonville and the Pulaski County township west of Highway 5). Getting a liquor license is another story. I'm sure an ex-con couldn't and that probably eliminates a lot of the people on this forum.

In my first sentence above, please replace "wet county can be voted wet again" with "DRY county can be voted wet again"

Voter, my uncle is a city offical and he told me that. I also had a history teacher in school that said it, that's why I thought that. You know, when it's someone high up, adn a teacher, you tend to believe them.

All you need is a petition with 38% of the registered voters signatures. Craighead is a dry county but they have numerous restaurants that serve alcohol ( private clubs) Including Outback and Olive Garden. Good luck White county.

"I am Human", I admire you for your open mind. In the long run, abusing alcohol is bad business, but do-gooders taking away your freedom to choose is bad business too.

Yes, White County CAN be voted wet.
Yes, White County SHOULD be voted wet.
No, it is not a sin to drink alcohol.
No, you are not going to hell if you drink.
No, it is not right for them to impose their moral judgments on everybody else.

I think it is a shame that all of that revenue goes across the river to Porters in Augusta. White County money has made liquor store owners in Woodruff County very wealthy. If White County was wet, I bet Porter's couldn't pay the light bill within a couple of months!
