I heard the same thing that Sheriff Shourd was a great asset. From what I've seen Sheriff Shourd has really helped turn White County around. Being a citizen I do realized there is only so much the law enforcement can do and it takes help from everyone to catch people. It would be a perfect world if there was fingerprints, DNA, and a confession letter at every crime scene but there's not. We do not live in a world of CSI we live in reality or at least most of us do!!!

Shourd is a good guy, but he is letting others run his office. This will cause him some election headaches. Shourd needs to get back to business.

Unfortuneatly the sheriff can petetion to hire more people on patrol but if the quorum court won't approve it then your still stuck short handed. You might want to talk to the quorum court as to why White County is the largest county as far as land mass and yet they are still one of the lowest paid and short handed because the quorum court not because the sheriff has not tried!!!!

The citizens of white county should be very greatfull that they have a good honest sheriffs dept. Sheriff Shourd is a hard workikng sheriff who works well with the local police depts. He is nothing like that garbage patty garrett that was the sheriff before him . Look at the narcotics arrest that his deputys are making compaired to pattys days as sheriff. Lets all support our sheriff.

Do you really know what is going on at the Sheriff's Office? If you do that is probably better than Richard Shourd knows. His second in command man is his judas goat. The fat guy over detectives has about as much sense as their drug dog. What has he solved?
Shourd comes from a nice family. He is probably a real nice guy. Is that what we need as top lawdog? He could do the job. He just needs to run his own office before JC crashes it. JC has run off some of the best deputies.
It is a mess. Ask any County Justice of the Peace.

Some people should not only look at the Sheriff's Dept. but also the Prosecutors Office. Even when the Sheriff's Dept do their jobs and get everything they need to make a case the Prosecutor will not press charges. Chris Raff wants an easy case he no longer wants to work for the people of this county he is working for himself. Sheriff's Shourd is doing a great job with what the Quorum Court gives him and he does the best that he can but it doesn't help when you have a lazy Prosecutor whose scared of a little work he might have to do. All these thieves are walking free not because of the Sheriff but because of the Prosecutor. These thieves might learn a lesson if they got more than a plea for probation send thier ass down...

Ive been around this area for a long time now and seen deputies come and go. I'm intrigued by the comment good deputies have been run off. I usually notice when the good ones are gone and I haven't had my head turned but once during Shrouds time. Maybe Grubbs can be more specific because I'd like to hear which ones ran off were good? All that we have seen is Pat Garrets henchman weeded out!! I do agree his choice for a detective lead isn't a smart one. That guy is joke around the coffee shops that's for sure! He was trouble many years ago and from what I hear hasn't changed. Sheriff's #2 man has been impressive to everyone I know. We love to hear the radio show. He's younger than most people think but a smart guy. I'm sure alot of Garretts people are still bitter over such a change in style with a better Sheriff

Bill, The #2 man as you put it is a trainwreck. He has been drinking and carousing with the detectives. He has hired and promoted people who will party with him. I agree that Shourd is a good guy, but he knows whats going on with his Chief and he will not do anything about it. He suspended him at one time when he got a minor intoxicated but then he reinstated him. If he enables this type of behavior he is as guilty as the Chief. Things aren't as lovely as they seem. I am certainly not a fan of Garrett, but let's be honest about the situation now.

haha that is a real good one "WeLL KNOW." You need to get your facts straight. The Chief did not get suspended for getting a minor intoxicated. Whom ever your talking with the both of you need to know what your saying before speaking. Such talk is just trash noting more.

Just want to correct one comment error. White County is not the largest Arkansas county. Union County is larger, but White County may have more miles of county roads. Git ur steie strait. I don't have a dog in the hunt about county politics, but the White and Cleburne County Sheriff Departments, along with "On-Star", recovered my stolen truck and put the low-down thieves behind bars.

I want to comment on the lead detective topic. I agree that guy they have running it is a joke. I know some detectives from the sheriffs dept and none of them really care for him. I think ur right on saying he's never solved any major cases. I will not say any names but I was told that a guy was running te detective division before the little fat guy came in and that the prosecutors office worked well with him and all the detectives were getting along and working well together and that this guy knew his business. I've been told he worked that baby murder in garner and did all the Internet child pervert cases. Why would we not want a man like that running our detectives? I don't know if this guy is even still at the sheriffs department or not but if not it's a huge loss he has helped my friends and family out on a case he worked for us a cpl years ago. Does any one know?

HE IS STILL THERE, but the fat guy dont like him nor the change that would better the white county area. So he took a different postition because the fat guy looked at him as a threat..SAD...because this guy is outstanding and knows how to get the job done...Yes the PA's office still thinks very highly of him and the job he can do and the way he gets along with others and can command such a unit...But the fat guy i guess just knows too many people...

I'm glad to hear he's still around. What position did he transfere to? I would like to know what the people that work with him think about him and if he's capable of handling a unit like that. I don't even remember his names honestly I think it was Grimes or something.
