Man dies in Cherry Beach drowning

SHARPTOWN -- A Delmar man died Friday afternoon after drowning at Cherry Beach. Thomas Andrew, Toomey, 20, was pronounced dead at Peninsula Regional Medical Center after being rescued by divers.

Thomas was the first person to talk to me in 6th grade at Delmar Middle. I'm praying for the family

i had only met him a week before this happend, but he was still close to me. i remember the first night i met him. he extended his arm and introduced himself.

i was in sharptown when this happend, i was also walking to cherry beach when i saw the helicopters. i had no clue it had been him. until i texted the boy he was with and asked him. i was texting thomas before his death.. the last text i got from him was just 11 minutes before the 911 call. its been a month and i still think of him and cry. rest in peace thomas.
