kinda hard to answer because lets say a running back was good but the offensive line was not as good. therefore his stats do no show that he was good. but if i had to say some names, ricki byars, bubba hill, darion walker, brent smith, lasal harper, curvin richards. otis taylor. jason applbee, baugh,. these are only the names i can remember right now. i know there a lot more. i remember billy hayes could kick the shit out of that ball!! i can't say who was the best, i think they were all good!! i wish i could remember more names. also, that kendrick perkins was awesome footbal player. i do believe he holds records for his talent.

don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of football, but find it so interesting that these guys get an opportunity to play the game they love, for at least another 5 years, as well as getting their education taken care of as well. How many football athletes from LP were awarded a scholarship and actually completed their bachelor's degree or higher??

Bubba "Loyd" Hill is the greatest running back in La Porte' s history. That is if you are judging natural talent only. He was killed in a hit and run accident on 146. Anyone whoever saw Barion Walker play saw a guy who was an amazing hitter. Greatest hit ever La Porte vs. pas. Rayburn, Barrion knocked both himself and a kid that was almost twice his size size out at midfield. The whole stadium went silent at the sound of the hit. The big kid got up first and fell back down(carried off on a stretcher) Barion got up stayed in the game. Ricky (bull) Byars one of La Porte' s greatest quarterbacks check the stats and remember they rarely ever passed. The numbers these guys put up while often facing ten men up front in almost every 2nd or 3rd and long.

In the 70's the school made no effort to prepare any of their football players for college. WINNING was all that mattered. Dope dog came to school coaches had players move there cars off campus so they wouldn't get busted. Not a good excuse but clearly sent a bad message to the team.

---Bubba originally signed with Texas A&M but then transferred to Oklahoma. Oklahoma was a dirty program and both Barion and Ricky suffered because of lack of morality in their athletic department. Don't get me wrong Oklahoma was not alone and if Bubba was alive he could share his experiences at A&M before he transferred to Oklahoma. Ricky played at Oklahoma and finished his career elsewhere. Ricky,Barion and Bubba were all great guys who deserved better than they got.
