The Harbor is a joke. There are no term limits for board members so the exact same group of men have been serving on the board for 10 + years with the same boring ideas, no new contacts, half of them don't attend or sponsor tables at events and then they go and hire an old man who runs the place worse than Jeter.

I am hopeful that the physical and sexual abuse of Danny Wilkerson, a cottage parent at Boy's Harbor, back in the mid to late eighties, is now non-existent. You can select the polygraph examiner, I'll take the polygraph test any day! God as my witness.

The director of Boys Harbor has to wear many hats. He has to be somewhat of a con man to help raise funds and also must be a good personnel manager and also a parent figure for the kids. I remember the Harbor when the kids lived in the Mansion and Chris Arno was the director. The LaPorte Optimist Club met at the Mansion and I was a member. Chris wore those hats pretty well. During that time I learned a little more about the Down Town Optimist Club and how some members used Boys Harbor to their advantage.

Mr oscar who was the whole maintence dept past away. He gave 25 years of his life to boys and girls harbor. 25 years that has and never been acknowledged by the board just like the other countless employees who have given many years of dedication. One place that has so many employees with 20+ years of service without even a thank you is disgraceful.
We were house parents in the year 1998 1999 in cottage C we loved it but the administration pulled some really bad stuff so we left the took our kids away from us I never thought would do this to us but he did, I remembered Oscar he was a good man enjoyed working with him he is missed

need to clarify they took the kids in our care from our house and decided to put teens with us no problem with that but we did not know about it until the same day when it was supposed to be done all the other House parents knew bout it except us

The Harbor is doing very well and continues serving the needs of numerous children. Those that criticize without real knowledge need to be ashamed as all they are doing is harming the reputation of a really good organization and some very dedicated people on the board and in the staff. Visit the Harbor before posting opinions and try to understand the consequences of unfair and biased opinions.
And for those of you that are truly concerned about the welfare of the children - go visit the Harbor, volunteer your services or write a check.
The Harbor has independent financial auditors and an independent board of community leaders that dedicate a lot of personal time and money to take care of the children. The Harbor also receives the highest possible scores on most independent evaluations of charities.

"Fancy Nancy" get your facts right! Look on the website. Plenty of women on the board. Always has been.
Also, how do you put term limits on a volunteer board that makes a significant financial commitment to the Harbor as part of being on the board. Take your personal money, make the time commitment and join the Board. I am sure you can come up with great ideas to help. Also sure they would welcome your time and money.

As a kid growing up, I always knew guys from the harbor especially through sports. I was always afraid to ask too many questions about what went on there. Most of the guys I knew seemed to be decent kids that would stick up for the younger and/or smaller kids at school. I always felt like but for the Grace of God I could have been there or foster care myself. I know they have raised some fine men there and I guess women too. I ran into Mike Prokapuk over Christmas last winter, he is one of their most famous people to have come through the Harbor. He and his brother were both super popular and outstanding athletes, is how I came to know them.
