I appreciate SOME of the things the city does to clean up and make La Porte a nicer place to live. What I have always wondered is why we don't work toward helping the enviornment. The city should supply each household with 2 recycle bins, and provide education to people who don't understand recycling. When you get on the program you have very little garbage. The city could make extra money on what is recycled. Let's put some money toward helping Mother Earth. We need to teach the next generation how to be responsible.

We live near Lufkin, a city of about the same size as LaPorte and while the city does not have curbside recycling it does have a state of the art recycling facility in a very user friendly location. When we lived in the LaPorte area the recycling facility was located behind the City public works location on 25th street. Curbside recycling is not the complete answer however a proactive public education program is.

Cities like recycling when it makes sense for the $, environmental benefit is what they sell the citizens.

In Texas, it is cheaper to throw it in a landfill than send a separate truck around the whole town.

Not saying that is how it should be, just how it is.

You should make your concerns known to city council. They can make it happennif they agree with you.

LP recycling center stays busy and is used a lot by the citizens. Unfortunately, since we don't have curbside pick up, we have to pollute the earth with toxic emissions as we drive there to recycle our goods - go figure.

Recycling requires commitment by our citizens. This commitment is fostered by the City council, the service clubs, churches, schools and your neighbor. It requires the City not limiting recycling to a money making operation. Recycling should happen even if it results in a loss. It is our environment that benefits.
