Hey, it's not too far until the next Sea Cliff village election in March, 2012. Not too early for those who have a stake and/or interest in such things.

You can bet that the incumbent party has it in the back of their minds. You can bet that some village dissidents have plans on how to upset the applecart.

Hometown elections are fun, but they can be acrimonious, too, for those who don't want to lose what they consider their empowerment. Watch this thread for details as they become available.

Hmmm, it is exciting to think that somebody is already thinking about a Sea Cliff election. Whoever it is that started this discussion, thank you. You have done us a real service.

Are we not tired of UN-contested elections in Sea Cliff?

Where candidates personally selected by the mayor or a committee of the monopoly party walk into office unopposed.

It's unfair, unethical and unhealthy in a small municipality like ours. Leadership should come from all areas and attitudes of town.

As presented in this new thread by Off Beat, obviously a concerned citizen, anticipation of a contested election in March, 2012, is appropriate, even though it is only August.

If anyone out there is intent on democracy working in SC, then let us know. You can, of course, be anonymous for now. Thank you.

I am glad to see a little stirring of interest in the next Sea Cliff village election in March, 2012. I think citizens deserve some kind of choice. Otherwise, we will experience autonomy, which would be quite unhealthy for our hometown

The 2011 election was not a tough call. There was no resident willing to stick his/her neck out and try to go against the Alliance Party organized by mayor Bruce Kennedy.

The formidable trustees running for reelection
were deputy mayor Carol Vogt and former school board member Tom Murphy. Those two have done admirable service in the village and deserved to keep their seats.

Now the picture for 2012 looks quite different with both trustee seats up for grabs. It is unclear at this point IF either or both Peter Hayes and Tom Powell have the desire to run again.
Hayes has missed several of the monthly public meetings because of his executive work schedule. Powell has not indicated his interest one way or another in stepping down or continuing.

Interest in the office will peak in January. Hopefully, two independent candidates (or a duo from a new party) will emerge much earlier. Look for new faces at the village board meetings as a clue.

It is true that Sea Cliff Mayor Bruce Kennedy is doing an upstanding job since his reelection earlier this year. But he could use some help on his village board of trustees. Two trustees, Peter Hayes and Tom Powell, are up for reelection. Truth is, both may or may not want to keep their seats, according to other posters above. That means an open contested election for village voters on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, one day after the Ides of March of Roman Empire Days. It's like having a full moon where anything can happen. Two Sea Cliff citizens have already indicated their desire to run for the office. They are expected to announce in November. So the village electorate will not be disappointed with another UNcontested village election as we had this past March. It's utterly undemocratic for that to happen in a patriotic town such as ours.

I am encouraging any civic-minded resident who has the time and qualifications to run for village trustee next March 12 so that we may have some sort of level playing field with which to govern the Village of Sea Cliff. Not to say that the current board is not doing a competent job. But a variety of viewpoints and opinions, not any lockstep lineup of people from the same Alliance Party created by Mayor Bruce Kennedy, would be healthier for our village. It's all about checks and balances, folks.

Word is, Anthony Losquadro was the winner in this week's meet candidates debate, outlastin and outdoing his two incumbent opponents. People will vote Row A and then walk out of the voting booth.
