People are asking, Whatever happened to Roots, which closed rather suddenly this week. It died of natural causes, the income didn't match te rent. Restaurants have died left and right in Sea Cliff ad infinitum. The only ones still prospering and maybe forever are Gallagher's and Partners. But Olives is being replaced by a sushi place. Il Villagio is opening a sushi bar inside its Italian restaurant. There will be a clash, no? We were hoping for a clam bar someplace. Guess we'll have to settle for the new spot in Glen Head. Bring back Rob Ehrlich who, despite his differences with the village, was the ultimate entrepreneur in the village. He did sushi after coffee, allowing people to bring their own booze and beer, renting them a glass for $5 apiece and turning the Japanese cuisine into a party. It was most popular in the summer because it was housed in a plastic tent outside the building that manufactured Pirates Booty. Despite what Doc Remulac of Roslyn said about salmonella in the booty, his was a thriving business until he sold it to gain peace of mind.

I am afraid that Peno, who is opening a sushi bar at his Il Villagio Italian Restaurant, will run head-on into the new sushi restaurant which is opening where Olives used to be. A restaurant vs. a bar for sushi is not an even playing field. Il Villagio will lose out in the competition for business, unless the prices are drastically different. Both Peno and Rob Mansfield are wonderful guys who don't deserve to be put out of business by the other. I hope this situation can be worked, like one of them going for a clam bar instead.

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Sagittarius

You're wearing rose-tinted glasses today, especially when you look at some of the special people in your life. Right now you only want to see their good points and you'll deliberately turn a blind eye to any faults that might be on show. If you can escape from the real world for a day with you-know-who you'll have a marvelously romantic and emotional time together. But do your best to come back to earth tomorrow.
