Dumler Says Scottsville Street Scape Project on Schedule - NBC29 WVIR Charlottesville, VA News, S...

Full story: NBC29 Charlottesville

Scottsville's "Main Street Makeover" will be completed very soon. Even though bids came in high for the town's streetscape project, Chris Dumler, an Albemarle County supervisor, says it will be finished by November 2012.

As I drive through Scottsville it occurs to me that it might be nice to have some traffic calming side walk bump outs like they have on Park St. in Charlottesville. This would serve two purposes, it would provide some benches and garden areas, and it would slow traffic. This would be far better and more WELCOMING than having speed traps on either end of the town!!! The really dangerous driving happens outside of the Scottsville town limits on Rt. 20 North and South.

I would lobby for a bypass and then this little bump in two roads can have chalk drawing contests in the streets.

Dumler's comments--at least as reported--are quite comical. The project will give Main Street a "vibrant economic look?" Are you kidding me?

Downtown Scottsville has more vacant businesses than it has occupied storefronts. And, of course, the dentist's office will be moving into Fluvanna in two months. So, let's see...
Large building destined to house microbrewery--still vacant.
Dentist's office--vacant
Abominable Twist ice cream shack--vacant soon (and, hopefully, permanently).
Large yellow restaurant building--vacant
Old second hand store--vacant
Dollar Store--occupied
Real estate office--occupied
Exxon station--occupied

The other side of the street is, approximately, 40% unoccupied. Besides the Dollar Store, the one business that has managed to stay afloat is the funeral home:
"If you're gonna whack her
Lay her out at Thackers."

C'mon, Dumbler, shouldn't you be worrying more about the Boy Scouts than b-s'ing us about Scottsville?

What is happening to Twist? Is it those democrat signs all around the front?
