If you are so worried about your dog, keep it off of someones property. You were trespassing. Surprised the hunters don't shoot each other more often.

Shooting a man's dog is one of the lowest things a person can do. I hope this guy serves time and comes to regret his choice.

The dogs can not read. They have to be protected! I really do hate to see it come down to a conviction before people finally get the message. Most hunters love there dogs like there own kids, I know I do.

I feel bad the dog was killed but it sounds like hunting dogs have more rights than a property owner does. We used to have property in the country and the hunters kept us busy mending fences they cut so their dogs could keep running. Maybe the property owner had a mental melt down from putting up with all the crap.

@Joe you obviously know nothing about hunting or the laws and they were NOT trespassing they have the right to retrieve. Dogs do not have GPS nor can they read posted signs, regardless it's sorry to shoot a mans hunting dog. We've had our dog shot before and the shooter payed the price & I bet he won't do it again.

What they didn't say is that the Beagle Bob had the poor shooter backed up into a tree, advancing with his deadly maw opened wide! Surely the shooter feared for his life and saw no other way out.

'Joe' is an illiterate idiot. It doesn't matter if a dog is 'trespassing' on your property. It is not legal for you to shoot it unless it is threatening you or your livestock/pets. Also, the article plainly states that it IS NOT trespassing for a hunter to come on your property to retrieve a dog. I thoroughly detest hunting (especially when dogs are involved) however, that doesn't change the law or the rights that the law gives hunters. And, to 'rose', I'm sorry that hunters irresponsibly cut your fence and didn't pay damages, but that still doesn't give one the right to 'melt down' and kill someones dog.

While it's terrible that the dog was shot, the hunters rarely seem concerned about the way their bullets fly onto other peoples' property and risk killing them. Nor do they seem concerned when their dogs run onto private property and kill smaller pets, livestock like chickens, etc.

While this particular hunter might have loved his dog, many more take horrible care of their animals. The shelters are filled with abandoned hunting dogs who were found malnourished and riddled with parasites. Hunters dump these dogs when they can no longer serve their recreational purposes, and keep breeding more.

The truth is that hunting dogs often become a financial and emotional burden for the community-at-large due to the irresponsible attitudes of, and mistreatment by, their owners.

I don't understand why dog owners feel there dogs or cats or there owners can come onto anyone property with out permission..To me that is just wrong..I know a lot of these hunters and they use there dogs as a way to come onto your property...I do not like anyone on my property unless I give them permission...Last year they came on my property and took stands and other belongings..so stay off and keep your dog under control

What is sad is that the "bad" hunters have ruined it for the good hunters so for the most part all hunters are now "labeled". We all should not be judged. As far as the fence, a sorry hunter probably did cut it but also a deer jumping over the fence can knock it down. It is always the hunters fault, even a good one and an argument to never be won. Hunting Is An American Heritage, God Bless America. I hope they throw the book at him.

Again, using dogs to kill deer or bear is not hunting, its a lazy mans way of herding and killing, hunting? bull. Never met a so called hunter that uses dogs that didn't have a chacter flaw.

IT IS IMMORAL for humans to enslave animals as property. BUT, THEN, VIRGINIA IS THE HOME TO LEGALLY ENSHRINING OWNING HUMAN BEINGS AS PROPERTY, TO DO WITH WHAT YOU LIKE.

Unless you are a complete vegetarian, you have no ground on which to complain. We torture living things regularly to put meat into our meals. At least the wild animal had a semblance of a normal life until it is shot.

If you can drive by a semi full of chickens or turkeys and not feel disgust, then you are kidding yourself.

When does trespassing occur if I post my land and you still trespass. I'd like to hear from a hunter. It may help me to better understand. You chase a deer or dog on my property. The dog is yours, is the deer yours too even though the land is posted or do you ignore my property rights or may be I have none?

Too Funny.. Pricks enjoying taking lives away...I grew up on the farm and when it came to taking the life away of that chicken you eat or the hog or cow you buy in the store you idiot, the chicken got his head cut off & the cow & pig got shot between the eyes, HOW do you think they do it at slaughter houses.
City people need to go back to the city and and leave us country folk alone.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Virgo

You have energy to burn today and it needs positive outlets, otherwise you'll be rather ratty and impatient. You want to work on activities that will show you in a good light, and you'll be annoyed if anyone objects to what you're doing or points out where you're going wrong. If you've been nursing a secret passion for someone, the frustration will really get to you.
