All volunteer except the medic that ACFR provides to CARS - an often overlooked fact.

As often as they are in the city helping city folks maybe they should start charging the city(not the folks) for each run they make into the city.

Why do people donate money to a organization that blatantly lies to people. "All volunteer" - Does he not know that he has paid medics working in his building 60 hours a week? If he is lying about this, what else is he not telling us?

Maybe he is counting them as ACFR, not C-ARS and because they still don't bill!

What CARS and the other rescue squads in the area and state are people with time to give and are able to make a long term commitment. To get a person trained as an EMT and be able to function in an ambulance takes over a year. To get them trained in an advanced life support certification takes another year or more beyond that. CARS and other organizations will pay for all of that training as long as you join an agency. All you need to do is look 60 miles to the southwest, Lynchburg Life Saving Crew is being pulled from 911 calls after 78 years due to lack of volunteers. http://www.wset.com/story/20140972/lynchburg-...

It doesn't matter if they are ACFR or not. They are still doing calls for CARS and riding in their ambulances not ACFR ambulances. The agency is not all volunteer.

CARS is all volunteer... period. The ACFR personnel are there to support ACFR's mission and to Precept ACFR personnel rather then send them to Chesterfield County. The Administration of CARS sees the presence as an additional benefit to it's response times. Regardless, it is an all volunteer organization that DOES NOT CHARGE FOR CALLS! ACFR's Medic 161 that is plugged into the side of Martha Jefferson's building runs calls to Free Bridge, to the Orange and Fluvanna County lines and CHARGES FOR EVERY CALL. Than those Medics on 161 go home at 18:00 hrs Monday thru Friday and no holidays and magically Charlottesville Rescue resumes taking care of all that terriotory lost during the day and they still answer all 2nd calls and more during the daytime plus ALL City calls. ACFR has their cake and eating it as well. It probably doesn't make any difference but the Medic crews on 161 don't, for the most part even live in Albemarle. Just wait unitl your tax dollars get spent on even more "adventures" within ACFR.

Just so you can be correct, although it seems like an impossible feat for CARS members - ACFR does not precept there members at CARS. The ACFR medics precept the volunteers. Once again, you are not all volunteer and you will bill when the County decides its time or you wont respond into the County. The County has that authority. Get your facts straight.

1. ACFR precepts both future ACFR medics and volunteers.

2. The county has already taken over the Northeast and Southeast side of the county (from the county line down to Walmart on 29S and from Free Bridge to Fluvanna/Orange) as well as a portion of NW where Earlysville, Reas Ford, and Simmons Gap, etc. The other portion belongs to Crozet VRS. SW (North Garden) is still untouched. I wouldn't be surprise if ACFR takes that over when it puts Medic 151 in service along with everything west of the 250bypass/Ivy

Not sure where you're getting your information, but they most definitely do precept ACFR Medics there. The county runs two ambulances of their own, they hire(d) around 16 last go around, and hiring another large group soon. Not sure how your math is done, but you can't precept 16 people using only 2 full time ambulances and 1 part time ambulance. I have my facts straight. CARS isn't going to bill for service, it's plain and simple. They've said that they would rather stop running calls in the county than bill. This time it's Albemarle County who on the defensive, they cannot even begin to provide adequate EMS coverage to the county with the resources they currently have, and it takes time to test, interview, hire, and then train and release the medics. CARS is in control of this situation, not the county, in a dramatic role reversal.

I seem to remember CARS being there when the county came begging them to take in their medics and precept them so that they could stop sending them to Hanover County to get released, but now that the county has it's own ambulances it has people slamming CARS for doing what very few places can do anymore, provide a professional service, 24 hours a day with volunteers, for free. I for one will commend them for it.

In a matter of months or years, the county will run it's own calls with MD121, MD111, MD161, and MD151 or possibility using MD112, an amubulance it received from Scottsville VRS. It will force C-ARS to be C-RS; get it?

More importantly, it would be interesting to see the county justify paying all these new medics/FFs who will sit around and do nothing except answer the one call every 5-6 or 10-12hrs. Also, to see the county cover their own calls when there is actually more 2-3 in a given area in a short span of time.

I also like to see what the county will do when it needs technical response, water rescue, etc as it currently does not have any squad trucks and few technicians.

I bet they will hire more people to sit around! What better way to spend the county taxpayers' money.

In the simplest of terms, does this about sum it up?

1. The County gives money to CARS, money which could otherwise go to other County departments, including ACFR.

2. CARS has a County paid medic stationed with them during the workweek.

3. The County provides EMS services in some, but not all of the County.

4. The City does not provide ANY money to CARS.

5. CARS runs all the City EMS calls, with backup from the County.

Yet everyone takes issue with ACFR, looks like you should be taking issue with the City.
