Well, we know what can happen when no one is armed on campus to protect the innocent (VT and Sandy Hook). I think a lot less will go wrong if we have trained personnel at our schools to protect the kids or at least limit the damage before police arrive. It needs to be considered as part of a comprehensive solution.

And we know what can happen when someone is armed on campus to protect the innocent (Columbine).

When minutes count in Virginia, dial 9-1-1. When seconds count, dial .357

There were armed officers at Columbine and students were still killed. There were armed police at VT, and student were still killed. There was the U.S. Army at Fort Hood and soldiers were still killed. To think that arming an elementary principal would have stopped a lunatic with a semi-automatic weapon who was clothed in body army is naive. And can you imagine the uproar if -heaven forbid- that flustered principal had attempted to use the weapon under those circumstances and accidentally shot a student. More guns in schools is NOT the answer.Teachers should be trained to teach, not shoot people.

But the police officers in Colo. and in Blacksburg were not actually inside the classrooms, where the violence occured.

So, you're saying every U.S. classroom containing students should have a trained gunman (woman)?
That would make the NRA happy!

Having taught high school math at an inner-city Virginia high school, I can tell you that given the violence that occurs, a gun might come in handy, unfortunately.
