Um..if you talk about UVA NONFACULTY staff, who are never mentioned by Sullivan or anyone else in administration, who have not had raises in years, I promise you...the number is much much higher. But we don't matter. Faculty think we just waste their time...when we keep them out of jail.

Please wait...
I would imagine a LOT of people in various jobs are NOT satisfied with the pay they are getting. So let them join the crowd !

If they get into the top 20, a full professor might make almost as much as a first-year assistant football coach.

The article is confusing. Are you talking about faculty or staff? The words are not interchangeable when talking about the employees of a university. Realstaff is correct. If you talk to staff I'm guessing the number is much higher.

Come to my place of employment and 100% of us are not satisfied with our pay! Taxes go up, gas prices continue to rise, food prices go up, and our salaries are not holding the inflation rate. Hey UVA staff, join the rest of us working stiffs. It's called an Obama economy. Own it!

"Realstaff" hit the nail on the head. In fact, the term "staff" designates one as NOT faculty. Staff members are infinitely easier to replace, since terminal degrees aren't required.

While faculty are able to obtain raises when the State approves them and from other sources, UVA loves to remind the administrative staff that they do not control their raises or pay -- the Governor does.

Hell, I own the joint and I'm not happy with my pay. I know my employees are not happy either with there pay. To keep from laying anyone off it's been no raises for 3 years. Not to mention my 25% pay cut. The rumors of waste by the university and the employees sickens me. I pray they are just rumors.

We (realstaff) are never mentioned by Sullivan or administration. When President Sullivan was asked to step down just as many "realstaff" rallied for her as Faculty and Students. Did the media mention Staff NO only Students and Faculty rallied on the Lawn blah, blah, I called channel 29 and called them on it and said I want you to know that there are just as many "staff" members rallying around President Sulliavn as there are students and faculty.......I got a quick apology with we will correct it on the next news cast, guess what, It Didn't Happen.....U Va employees close to 10,000 employees and I would say at least 6,500 are real staff while the others are Faculty, Doctors and Nurses..... I'd say at least 90% of the real staff are dissatisfied with their pay. Univ of Va and the State use to be a good place to work. I totally agree with you REALSTAFF....

Palease, no one is satisfied with the pay, what else is new. The bad part? The average workers pay hasn't kept pace with the cost of living since the 1970's. Inflation has bumped up the price of everything except wages, and why do think that is? anything to do with the 1%. Anything to do with ugly side of capitalism?

Faculty operate in a national labor market, so UVa has to compete with universities all across the country (and even world) for top talent. Staff typically operate in a local labor market. This is not to say staff don't deserve a raise -- by all means they do -- but we need to recognize the differences.

If you talk to staff I'm guessing the number is much higher. Once again, NBC 29, you are implored to please do your homework before writing and posting an article. There are several distinctions among employee groups at UVA. The survey you are referring to is specific to faculty at the University. As aptly pointed-out above, the terms "faculty" and "employees" are by no means interchangeable, as the former refers to a specific group while the latter implies reference to all classifications of employees at UVA--a much larger and broader group.

I'd be curious to know what is the average salary of these faculty members. Then, I'll know if they should be dissatisfied.

If you have skills and another business is willing to pay you more, then you can move on and not settle for no raises. Without marketable skills, the man owes you nothing and you are certainly replacable.
