Now is not the time to raise recreation fees and parking fines, especially not to fund an unneeded "human rights" commission.

Agreed. What a crock. But, would you expect anything less from our fair city?

The alternative plan just passes the bogus buck. A vertual useless venture dreamed up by holy than thou mantalities that look upon the citizenry with contempt, like most politicians.

So what happens when the mom and pop store down the street decides to bring their son on board as an employee? Will the human rights commission fault them for not hiring a minority instead?

City Council members want to give this commission "teeth" to enforce laws, but how will they guarantee the right to due process for the accused? I would think that it is unconstitutional for the City to establish a commission that serves as judge and jury and bypasses a court of law.
Charlottesville might as well be colonial Salem, Massachusetts with this witch hunt.

Offending "employers"? THERE'S your bottom line, folks.

Not "landlords"...not "neighbors"...but EMPLOYERS.

This has been and continues to be one big extortion racket aimed at blackmailing local business owners.

How many minorities do you have working for you? If someone decides not enough, prepare to pay up or they'll ruin your business and your reputation by placing the dreaded letter "R" for racist to you and your livelihood.

I think, again, our tax money could be much better spent.
Healthier school lunches, trees planted, making the downtown mall more attractive by having local music artisans playing, etc.

Stonefields and the new mall out on Fifth Street await mall businesses that have finally had enough of bums, unemployable "utes at risk" that have long arrest records and backpacking travelers from around the country that come here to escape their felony convictions back home.

They are all "victims" of police forces that know how to spot hope and changers that do their window shopping by looking in your car windows.

Human Rights in Cville means the right to evade work and live off others.

Articles such as this only serve to convince me moving from the Peoples Republic of Charlottesville to Myrtle Beach was the right thing to do. The wonderful Charlottesville I grew up in is dead and gone as the socialist idiots are doing all they can do to destroy what is left of the city and economy.
I am sure if Mr Jefferson was able he would ask to be relocated.

Ms. Galvin said it best in that the City is going to provide a law enforcement arm to a very small number of people, "single digit", and charge the citizens of Charlottesville for the dollars necessary to accomplish that goal. How in hell is that fair? Doesn't the majority rule? And how many of those single digit persons were actually identified regarding their alleged discrimination? Nothing more than promoting a giveaway program for persons who, under other circumstances, wouldn't have an issue to begin with but Ms. Szachos is willing to further a program that doesn't need to be installed. Further foolishnes! One more observation... For Good Lords sake Mayor Mumbles, please make some effort to speak in such a fashion that more than every 3rd word can be understood.

Charlottesville's citizenry swarms to vote for far-left candidates whether they be on a federal, state, or local level. A majority feels that government is not big enough and it will never be big enough for the left to be happy and content. Our daily lives must be controlled by the far-left and this is the only thing that matters.

If everyone got together to figure out a way to make Charlottesville even more unfriendly to businesses they would probably dream up this commission.

Glad to read so many comments against this proposed commission, even "sez you". How far the dems are willing to go to take control of our lives and tell us how to live, continues to amaze me. Their real agenda is a huge power grab, and turn this country like Europe. I only pray that it won't be too late before enough liberals take the blinders off.

How about a VOLUNTEER group to oversee this? There are already laws in place to handle these issues and the city taxes are already high. The city's money can better utilized on something that is truly needed like replacing the old pipes.
