It's a great service and a life saving one as well. I personally have used it twice. At the time there was no fee involved, however, a nice contribution was forwarded to the responding squad.

I can understand the charge, but if that's the case they probably won't get as many contributions either - Rooker makes it sounds like insurance companies will cover this - there is only a percentage that some insurance companies cover, so don't make it sound like it's a 100% coverage.

While everyone is tripping over themselves to donate money to Haiti it might be a good idea to think about a donation to the ambulance service that will try to save your life during a heart attack, stroke, car wreck or life threatening injury.

No more donations from me. Support the squads that are not charging. What happens when my insurance doesn't cover this charge or someone does have insurance but only a percentage is covered. Does the patient have to pay the fee that isn't covered? How are they going to collect? Most people are not going to pay or will not call especially the elderly. My parents cannot afford to pay for this service so they will hesitate on calling if help is needed.

No more donations coming from me or my neighbors. We will only support those squads who do not charge such as Charlottesville Albemarle Rescue Squad. This is another reason why our insurance is so high! We will not request any service from Hollymeade! In fact we will insist that Hollymeade not be sent.

Shame on you Hollymeade Rescue Squad!!!!!!!!

I think it is time that they can get back some of the money that they put out. These men and women do an incredible job to help anyone who needs help get to the hospital they deserve it!!!!!

To be fair, Hollymead Rescue Squad is a part of Albemarle County Government, not an independent entity

Now see, what did I say a while back, the good people who over the years that have donated will feel like they've got a good kick in the teeth, and I don't blame them for being irate, this idea of stiffing people for a service that was free is nuts. Why people want to be led around by the nose by politicians and bureaucrats is beyond me.

We all understand that Hollymeade RS is part of the Albemarle County Government, however, they had a choice in this decision and so do the citizens of the Earlysville area with no more donations.

Why does Albemarle hate poor people?
