Just wondering if Fluvanna teachers with Master's Degrees still receive $2,000 a year for incentive pay? Why would an elementary teacher need a Master's? Or even high school teacher?
The parents I know cannot even pay $3.50 an hour for babysitting. They are lucky to pay $75.00 a week for babysitting and they are working full time.

I am so sick of the attacks on Fluvanna schools I could scream! For all you out their just itching to take away a future from children unable to defend themselves with a vote, and doing it with lies about massive pay raises and bloated staffs, here is what is really going on in those schools.
Due to the constant attacks on the school budgets in the past two years, 87 positions have been eliminated in addition to pay being lower than 2007. Tomorrow night, the school board and teachers will go begging the board of supervisors for enough funds to only cut another 33 positions. This is the starting point of negotiations with a board of supervisors whose chair has already vowed this budget dead on arrival and promised deep and meaningful cuts!
The school budget is not bloated. It in shock from the many cuts it has suffered, and teachers are being labeled as greedy for only cutting an additional 6% of the workforce!
You have got to be joking! All the schools know is overspending! THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY THE SCHOOLS WOULD ELIMUNATE 33JOBS!

More than likely they are asking to fund 33 new jobs. Maybe 133! There is no way on earth the board of supervisors would EVER trim the schools back that far. They couldn't. The teachers are all tenured so they can't be fired and the union protects all those jobs!

You tax and spend education liberals wouldn't know a fact if it hit you in the face! No wonder we have a nightmare president that tanked the stock market!

What state do you live in? There IS NO teacher's union in Va., and teacher's are on a new contract every year. No TENURE (that's only at the university level). It's not like the way you remember it back in your home state (NY probably).

Where you guys mess up is fighting a nationwide and statewide battle on a local level. You solve no problems and only hurt your local community. The wasteful spending in government is not at the local level (Fluvanna is very lean in the administration department compared to other counties in the area and counties of similar size). Tax dollars that go to your locality come back to you in a high percentage. It's the dollars flowing to the state and Feds that disappear into a black hole. Yes, the education system is messed up, but blaming your local school board for complying with state and federal regulations is crazy. Is there too much administration? Yes, but why? Because the school system has to comply with an ungodly amount of paperwork requested from Richmond and Washington. They're not up there pushing paper just to push paper. They have to report stuff like the percentage of special education students who speak English as a second language who score between 375 and 400 on STATE mandated SOL tests, that were supposed to fix everything. It's a horrible job, learning all those regulations and then complying with them (ever read a gov't regulation). The number of people who could do some of those administrator's jobs (again--years of learning crazy state and federal laws--reporting codes, etc) is close to zero. So quit going after you local school board and go after the idiots in Richmond and Washington who want to push your county around. Then you can run the school the way Fluvanna citizens think it should be run.

and when we DO get involved and voice our thoughts, that are critical of the SB and how the schools are run in general. We get made fun of and caricatures are made of us by FoFF to discredit us and our view points against the nation's education system's agenda as a whole. Boy, you really are ignorant. They are absolutely cutting 33 jobs. These are 33 jobs they had last year, they won't have this year. No new jobs are being created. Teachers can be let go with a reduction of force notification (riffed) no matter how much experience they have. The layed waste to Orange like this five years ago, and if you want to see where you'll be in five years come see Orange County Schools. The kids are in squalor with giant classes and teachers who simply can't get jobs anywhere else or who are stuck in the county due to owning a house there. Even their sports programs have fallen apart. The Orange teachers used to dream of going to Fluvanna, now it's the one school system we wouldn't switch to. Fluvanna has reputation as worst school system in state to work in, now. Amazing how far you can fall in two years.

The president tanked the stock market?!?
Dow, Jan 20, 2009: 7,949.09
Dow, March 20, 2013: 14,511.73

Yes, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the most widely followed measure of stock market performance has nearly doubled under this "nightmare president" and my retirement account hopes we keep living the nightmare!

Just think what the economy would be doing if we actually were investing in education!

Instead of investing in stocks so you can get rich quick and be lazy for the rest of whatever?
BTW, the DJIA doesn't mean we are doing well, it only reflects the inflated sense of value that the "Stocks" have. Kind of like the Fed printing more money that has no backing just to make everyone "feel" like things are okay. For every dollar "gained" by stocks, there is a dollar "lost" somewhere (usually the hard worker who see his retirement going up in smoke because of get-richers in the market).

I'm sure if they just eliminated all the waste in the schools, they could save some money.

You want to eliminate the waste, eliminate the teachers!

Computers could probably teach the kids far better, and since from the sound of it, Fluvanna has already given each kid a computer, why not let the computer do the teaching!

So are you saying YOU were taught by lazy teachers and thus are poorly equipped to meet the world? Or are you computer taught, and thus disprove your point?

Oh! I get it!

When the Dow hit 6,626 in March, 6 weeks after Obama took over, it was proof that Obama was destroying the economy with his anti-business socialism.

Now that the Dow is at 14,578, it only shows that we are not doing well and the stock market doing well is bad.

I think I am starting to get the logic here! If for every dollar stocks gain, someone loses, then the best possible scenario is for the stock market to completely crash, wiping out all investment value!
