Then maybe we should have kept the institution of slavery around for "historical purposes." Let it go-it serves no useful/practical function.

The difference is that crusty ole house and that tavern make money. When was the last time the ferry paid it's own way?

Well aren't we just a happy bowl of sunshine today. It would be nice to keep it becasue it makes some people happy and, quite frankly, we could use more nice stuff in this world. If you don't like it, don't use it.

I'm glad you use it and enjoy it,just don't ask for my tax dollars to support it. There are far more important things in this world for our tax dollars to support.

Is this a free ferry? If it is start charging to use it. If it already has a fee then increase it for the ones who use it. I for one don't use it and don't want to pay to keep it running.

I sure wish I could do my taxes ala carte but things just aren't working out in my favor...why not drive down there are take a look and see why people would want/need to keep it running?
I've used the ferry quite a bit, it's a great advantage.

It is free if one chooses not to pay. Here is the website which describes how it has been funded in the past. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatton_Ferry
Either it needs to be self sustaining or it needs to go away.

you must be mooching off the system. to NOT want to keep things like the hatton ferry going is just sad. It is part of the history of the area. thomas jefferson had his arch build several buildings and houses in the scottsville and warren (which also had a ferry until hurricane camille) area. have you even ever beem there? there are many things that dont have a purpose but for the sacred history steeped in this area we need to KEEP IT!!!!!!

I agree - somethings are worth keeping just so our children will understand their significance.

hey i think i know you, are your initials [mw]? if so and i believe this is you, how are you doing. i read your post and realized all the things you did for the community as a child. you were friendly with everyone and always had a big smile on your face unless momma was on your case. i agree with you and the history of that area is too overwelming and beneficial just to flush down the drain because certain outsiders or new residents doesn't care about it.
Scottsville is a diamond in the ruff, where else can you find a life time mayor? also a butcher and chief of police, that would cut your steaks or write you a summons... let's keep it the same and unite for this little precious community. if you want change, move somewhere else, this community likes what it has... rlh
