Gun sales, in Albemarle County and around the country, are skyrocketing since the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, and so are calls for both assault rifle and high capacity magazine restrictions.

Santa is amused that anyone thinks there will be some "fast" legislation for anything. You may have a merry Christmas as long as you do not shoot yourself or anyone else. If you do, no presents for you.

And please try to get in the Christmas spirit, people. It's only for a little while.

Gun sales are driven by the free range democrats that the city government empowers.

Having survived several attempted break ins at my home I determined the best way to scare off the "perpetual victims of society" was to leave blank job application forms on my front and back porches.

If you're going hunting, you don't need a semi-automatic AR15 or a full automatic M16. But the Second Amendment is not about hunting. The Second Amendment was intended to provide the means by which the people, as a last resort, could rise in armed revolt against tyrannical authorities. If the citizens in the USA ever have to take on the government, they have the right to have the same weapons the government has. Otherwise, why don't we just give the government bazookas, and issue BB pistoles to the general population.

I never understood why the general public can not own bazookas Etc.,Also a fully military equipped tank with a dozier blade would be great around the home or farm for snow removal & to discourage prowlers !

Yes, we want to help protect the Constitutional right under the Second Amendment.

But, guess what, the US Supreme Court's statement about the meaning of that right is this and this only: there is a right for an individual - regardless of being a member of a military or not - to own firearm(s) for purpose of self defense, in the individual's home.

And, the Supreme Court states clearly that there can be many different sorts of limitations beyond this.

So, dearie, your protected Second Amendment right is very limited and not at all what you 'pretend' that it is: it IS NOT a right to carry in public places, it IS NOT a right to carry concealed, it IS NOT a right to keep hidden from the public that you have a license to own or license to carry or any other permit or license, it IS NOT a right to own any number of firearms without limit, it IS NOT a right to own any sort of firearm that you like (automatic, large magazine, assault, military, etc), it IS NOT a right at all to 'bullets'- there is absolutely no mention of the word 'bullet' or 'ammunition' in the Constitution.

So, dearie, all these other things that you 'pretend' are your rights, are NOT RIGHTS, they are GIVEAWAYS FROM THE VIRGINIA LEGISLATURE, at the expense of other taxpayers.

**** should other taxpayers pay for these giveaways to people who want things that are not their rights, but are merely their WANTS! and FOND WISHES!**** should other taxpayers pay for your gun hobby? or your 'prepping'/'hoarding' of weapons?

Where are the TEA Parties protesting these giveaways to special interests?

ABSOLUTELY, we want to protect your Constitutional rights. NOT your gun hobbies, your 'prepping', your gun fetishes, your gun perversions, etc. Your gun perversions and no different than other pornographic perversions: which are, of course protected under the First Amendment. But, we don't pay for other people's porn hobbies, porn hoarding, porn addictions, etc

So, stop demanding Virginia taxpayers bear the burden of your gun hobbies, gun hoarding, and gun addictions!

THIS IS NOT the the US Supreme Court's statement of the meaning of the Second Amendment!

You can believe in your 'theory' about the Amendment, you can believe in an Easter Bunny that lays colored eggs, you can believe that the moon is made of blue cheese ...

... but that does not require anyone else to believe it and certainly does not overturn what the Supreme Court says is the law.

So, please stop 'pretending' and arrive to reality about the law.

Sheryl Crow's Debut Album
Walmart banned this album because one song on the CD contained the following lyrics: "Watch out sister/Watch out brother/Watch our children as they kill each other/with a gun they bought at the Walmart discount stores." This CD is not currently sold in Walmart stores.

I do each of these things every day. And I plan to continue, new laws or no new laws. And I already own enough firearms to equip a small militia in this area.

If parents were still able to bend their children over and smack their butts with a leather belt, Sandy Hook probably would never have happened. But no, all the liberal do-gooders had a better idea about child discipline. We see how well it has worked out for all of you.

That's got to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Let the people have a firearm, but don't give them a bullet. They can toss the gun at the bad guys and hit them in the head.

Correct. And even upper middle class citizens can no longer afford full auto. The $200 tax stamp is the least of the problem, the initial cost of a full auto weapon now is like buying a new Toyota Camry. A person making $75,000 a year would have to finance a full auto M16 for 5 or 6 years, just like a car.

Sorry, the Supreme Court is wrong. Go read the Second Amendment.... "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

It says nothing about self defense or hunting. It says nothing about the government having 30 round magazines, while the "people" can only have 10 round magazines. It says nothing about the government having bigger and better firepower than the "people".

I'm not real concerned. This entire discussion will in the news for a month, then it will go away just like it always has. There's far too many firearms and 30, 40, 50 and 100 round magazines out here already to ban. If a criminal wants an AR15 and a couple of 30 or 40 round magazines, he/she will find them.

You have an approach to this that is of very scary thinking. It is not for you or the government to determine in a free society what I or anyone else needs nor do we have to justify anything to you or the government. When all of our brainwashed children grow up and want to tell you that you do not need the house you live in or the car you drive what are you going to say? Because they are going to tell you it is your fault that the earth is falling apart. How about when the government tells you what you need to eat or drink because of the obesity epidemic. When Communist China agrees with the Liberals in this Country that we need to be disarmed that ought to tell you something. Are they not the ones who slaughter the "baby girls" because they don't "NEED" to have more children born?

We are still a free nation and some of us want to keep it that way. In the words of George Washington, "A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." Maybe the people of the Soviet Union(4 million),China(35 million),Germany(200,000), philippines(75,000 Muslims),Ethiopians(1 million),Tutsi(500,000),Bosnia (200,000)and many others to more than 100 million people who got slaughtered by their own governments could better explain this to you. More people were killed in the 20th Century by their own governments than by all wars combined in that sime time period.Roughly 37 million have died in all wars. Don't believe me click on the link below and read for yourself. Deal in facts not feelings.

Sure. Where are these citizens, the last resorters, armed with fully automatic weapons, stealth fighters, nukes, submarines and battleships?? We have a right to match the gubment right?

C'mon this is not 1791. We are not going to rise against the gov't with semi-auto assault rifles. Your validation is invalid.

If you're a bad shot, lazy hunter, then these guns are ideal.
Real hunters use black powder guns and compound bows (game will often be a better meal brought down with a bow). If you'd like a gun, nothing like hunting big game with a .72 caliber Kodiak Express.
AR15's. SKS's, M16's etc. are great guns, but collector items only.
If you want home defense, you really don't need these. Even better in close quarters (and a favorite of GI's in Nam) is the 12 gauge 00 pump. Devastating; in many ways even more so than the longer range assault rifles.

Bingo! We have a winner!

But you're wasting your breath here. These liberal bleeding heart do-gooders are ready to give up every right they currently enjoy. It's hilarious how they don't blame cars in drunk driving fatalities. But they blame the gun in a shooting fatality.

Gee Wiz. You do realize this same devastating 12 gauge 00 pump will still be available to the public after whatever new laws are introduced. They weren't banned in the last so called "Assault Weapons Ban". The true full auto M16 wasn't banned back then either. Semi AR15 was banned, but the full auto M16 wasn't. The lawmakers back then had no idea what they were dealing with. Talk about a loop hole.... WOW!
