6 P.M. is right at dark, and only three benches are on that part of the trail and are in Riverview Park. I walk that part of trail daily during daylight and have only seen one incident, other than bicyclists racing down the trail, and that was two young men riding their motorcycles toward free bridge. I have yet to see any official, other than the previous animal control officer.
We've been on the trail and seen patroling bicyle officers, but that was the exception rather than the rule. Wouldn't consider walking the trail by myself whether daylight or dark.

The felons like the Freebridge area. When they rob someone in Charlottesville they move to the other side of the river and that puts them in Albemarle County and vice versa. They know how to use jurisdictional lines to avoid police. The CTS bus system is the conveyance for the beggars at Pantops since they can beg and steal and then hop a bus to get back over Freebridge and into Charlottesville before the Albemarle cavalry can respond to the call. Already there are at least several dozen police-shy men in the woods within a mile of Freebridge. Many only visit the mall and the Corner during the day to beg and they stay in their bum burrows (usually tents) at night in order to dodge the police. When the city council does their bum census I hope they interview our wood dwellers that are "victims" of society..........

They prefer to commute downtown via the Rivanna trail instead of Meade Avenue or High Street since they are less likely to be spotted by police----and that speaks volumes about their past activities!

When it comes to killing shrubbery they are worse than the neighborhood cats and dogs.

Hopefully the NBC moderators won't consider my observations to be "offensive" since they are based upon many years of first hand empirical observation-----something 25 year old cub reporters seem to be very short on.

Just thought a Kel Tec would be easier/better to jog with. Easy to conceal, light, good for the ladies. But yeah, a .357 (or .44 mag for that matter) would return these **** to their maker faster and permanently.
You're prob right (for ladies) you have to be able to make follow-up shots. I like the Ruger LCR, little bigger than the P32 but recoils like a cannon in .357

Its fun to shoot if your idea if fun is a sledgehammer hitting your hand.

I hit with a .32 is better than a miss with a .357.

You basically have to shoot the largest caliber you can shoot effectively. If thats a .32 thats still better than a cell phone. Use FMJ rounds.

Disillusioned -- there are no permanent shelters here in Cville. You have a "day only" respite shelter for laundry, showering, access to computers, staying off the street and out of the weather. We have a "thermal shelter night-only system" that is operational only during the "cold" weather months. After March it is back to the woods or car or couch.
Violence is not acceptable. No matter what socio-economic level you are on or where you live ( woods vs. Glenmore).
They recently finished the place on 4th street, 30 apts for homeless, 30 apts for low income. I believe I'd take my chances in the woods. multi unit dwellings usually are a magnet for lots of hijinks.

Well if you're so worked up, why don't you hit the greenbelt, see if you can entice one of the scofflaws in their camp to take you "against your will" and then see how long it takes a cop to arrive when you start doing a Ned Beatty impersonation?

...in the name of science, of course. Your frustrated libido when you think about gun barrels and projectiles is of no consequence to an actual rational discssion about the second amendment and what it guarantees. It certainly makes you easy to ricicule though. Bullets penetrate, too, perhaps you're closeted?

Please folks, don't be so hard on Gunzkill. Why, just the other day a woke up to go to WORK and found myself surrounded by the whole of my gun collection. Fearing that one of my pistols would attack me without provocation, I promised to clean and oil all those firearms who went peacefully back to the safe. Fortunately, they all agreed and I was able to avert another example of rogue guns killing without a human operating it. We should, in fact, thank Gunzkill for reminding us to take care of our weapons lest they revolt.

Another Democrat at risk. He will get a Public Defender on our dime.(You just know he has a rap sheet a mile long and is a frequent visitor to Charlottesville's Court System). It never ends. Liberal judges give them a pass, but stick it to the tax payers, for minor traffic violations. P.S. Fools Gold is a little over the top, but his message is clear. "Arm yourself" or be a victim, The economy is only going to get worse, crime is already a major problem in every city in Virginia. Word up people!! ALI
