For all of you saying that the square improvements are only being made to help The Red Elephant and The Sweet Life, they are in the process of building and moving their locations to property next to the New Mexican restaurant. They're only going to be on the square for 3 or 4 more months so these improvements won't be benefiting them.
Are they getting more grants? They both got grants before. Not fair to poor people struggling to start a business or stay in business. It's concerning that the husband & son-n-law is behind all the projects in town & getting grants. Not fair at all. He should be replaced because of conflicting interest. No one even had a chance to interview for his job. He was just replaced. Once again not fair to scottsville residents.

You did not read what I wrote?
Conflict of interest.
Who is getting the kickbacks on the construction?
Who Okayed this project?
This is a sham!
Beautification of the square?
How about more parks?
How about adding street lights in our already dark neighborhoods?
Parking now squeezed.
18 wheelers turning safely?
Handicapped access is the only positive I see.

Anyone can apply for a grant. The government is just waiting for people to fill out the paperwork so they can give them free money. You want some? Do the work.

I for one am proud of the work that has been done. The square looks very nice. It looks just like a town square should look.

Parking will always be an issue but a little walk should do all of us some good. Myself included.

It's absolutely awful! There will be no more parallel parking down that first block of East Main on any side. They've brought the sidewalks out so far it's narrowed the street. I swear it's inches away from the vehicles driving down the street. Who cares about flower planters? That idiot Jamie Boler needs to be fired. All he's concerned about anyway is promoting Sweet Life (which I've RARELY seen anyone at as it is) and Red Elephant and that stupid new restaurant...that no one will be able to park near now thanks to his genius!
My thoughts exactly!!! I just wonder if Jamie is supporting sweet life with some kind of government (our tax money) funding. Since it's owned by his in laws. If you remember when sweet life first opened he got them some kind of grant that paid for their sign. Otherwise, why would they be open still since they have no business that I can see. I think they've spent way too much money on the square! The whole town looks lopsided! Nice square....rest of the town run down! How stupid!

I just read everything here...lol...glad I'm not the only one who feels the same way about who's running all our tax money into the ground! How about some sidewalks running through town...I feel so bad when I see people struggling to walk on the sides of the roads here in this stupid town! They need to get their heads out of their asses!...and don't worry pro scottsvillans...As soon as I can sell my house, I'm outta here! Believe me no one acts like the people here do...Odd!!! But, they can't see it themselves. Sad!

I want to say that I lived here as a child then moved away, now have been back for several years. I like S-vill, I like small towns and S-vill is where I want to spend the rest of my days.
My only complaint is I wish some people would use a little more common since, having those flower beds come so far out into the street is asking for someone to have a wreck.
I have to wonder if they just don't care about our cars as long as we don't damage their flower beds.
I am all for making our town look good, but it defeats the purpose when someone drives through our pretty square and only a few blocks later they see houses falling down, roads needing repair, and no business.
I though the town looked fine, it looked fine before they added all the flower beds in the square and took away parking spaces. Now they have taken away the few that were left. Some people cannot walk very far, and they needed those spaces. Wonder how long the new resturant will last if people have to walk a ways in the cold and rain.
If nothing else I think this should have been put to a vote..

Pure speculation here.....but I wonder if there is grant money involve? If so is it tied to adding more "green space?" When something makes absolutely no common sense, the first thing I look for is the fingerprints of government bureaucrats....

I for one am happy with the improvements. For this reason... My daughter was almost run over by a driver shooting up the "phantom lane" to the right of traffic going to the square.

There was NEVER two lanes up East Main... and there have been so many close calls with pedestrians in the crosswalk that I was waiting for a significant injury to occur.

Now there is only one lane, and pedestrians are safer.

I'm betting it'll be torn out after someone gets run over exiting their parked vehicle.

Yep...or has their door torn off by a car driving by because the space is too narrow.
