I noticed the power went out around 5:30 this morning. Later in the morning when I went to franklin i saw100 was closed going back towards my house. When I came home around 12:30 the road was back open and two tow trucks were pulling gas tanker and then cab. What happened? Is the driver okay?

All the news is releasing is that it was a fuel spill, and that the clean up took 4 hours. They are not saying much else yet, but they will.

Life Flight was called and from what I've heard the driver is critical. That's all I know, and this is coming from someone close to the VFD.

Thanks Roaming :) The truck was badly beat up when I saw it. I am really hoping the driver survived. Where are you getting your info so I can keep tabs on it?

This road needs to be widened.

I agree. Especially those two tiny bridges. I thought I was going to die when I went over one with a semi, totally didn't mean to do that either. Cops also need to sit on that road more.

This road has been widened at least twice that I can remember, I think, within in the past 15 years. It's actually a pretty decent road now. That is not to say that there aren't a couple of places (bridges, etc) that still need some attention.

Do you remember a few years back when we had the big controversy about the rumble strips being placed a foot or more from the edge of the road? It had been widened about a foot on each side then. At that time the rumble strips were redone, and moved closer to the edge of the road.

I'm certain that a scarcity of road funds is the main problem. There are too many roads, too many bridges, most needing some attention -- and not enough money to do them all on a timely basis.

I frequently meet people at the Sulphur Fork Creek bridge (Simpson County line) who want to drive over the center line when crossing that bridge. There is no need to do that. That bridge was widened 12 years or more ago. It is plenty wide for anyone who knows how to drive to cross and stay on their side of the center line.

I have a friend who works for the DOT. I believe he told me once that heavy trucks such as this one that overturned are not legal to drive on hwy 100. Perhaps the police should be patrolling it more and encouraging larger vehicles such as this one, that create a hazard to take a different, safer route. I think trucks sometimes use it to get from US 231 over to I-65.

My opinion is that most of the accidents that happen are the fault of the drivers involved and not by deficiencies in the roads. Too many people are talking on cell phones, texting while driving, talking with someone else in the vehicle, looking at the scenery, or just generally not paying attention to the job at hand, which is driving.

That's just My Opinion for what it's worth.

I found this account of the accident online.

An early morning truck accident Thursday left Kentucky 100 in Allen county closed for approximately seven hours.

According to KSP, at 05:30 AM a tractor and trailer cargo tank loaded with retail diesel fuel left the roadway near the four mile point. The combination vehicle owned by Key Fuel/Service Transport was being --operated by a John Mcgraw-- of Spring Hill, Tennessee.

According to preliminary investigation, the commercial vehicle left the right shoulder, continued through a fence, struck a utility pole, then overturned multiple times.

KSP says the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. He was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville with head and chest injuries.

As a result of the accident, several hundred gallons of diesel fuel was spilled requiring assistance from the EPA and Environmental Services.

The investigation is on going, however inattention and speed appear to be contributing factors.

I made a point to drive over to find out where the truck ran off the road and overturned. It was on a curve on Hwy 100 about halfway between Stony Point Church and the old Alonzo store building.

It was in a field that sloped downhill away from the road, on the right side as you travel toward Scottsville.

There is a big pile of dirt at what I assume to be where the trailor came to rest and spilled the fuel. It is across the road from the house where Edwin Mayhew used to live.

I just thought someone who didn't know where it happened might be interested.
