Just found out our county sheriff department and so called swat team "from this weeks paper" was afraid to arrest an armed fugitive that beat up his girlfriend and took shots at them. They left him in a house and went home. He was at large almost 24 hours before he turned himself in to state police. Now that's protecting the public.

The woman refused to press charges when theu came. And the man stayed inside his house and would not come. out. He shot at her before they came, and outside the back of his house while only one officer was waiting next door with the lady for her son to come get her. They had no right to enter and get him without a warrant. Unlike several of our great city shitheads, the county is actually by the book, Thank God. And I know cause I was involved in the ordeal. So no, they. were not scared;just following proper procedure. Don't believe everything you read, or read into it what you want...

They were not chicken. The woman refused to press charges. He shot at her before they got there and out his back window while one officer was present. They came, and he shut himself in. They had no warrant to make entry at the time. And he did not turn himself in. They went and arrested him the next afternoon with a warrant, county and state police. The night before county, state, and tacticle from Simpson and Logan were there. Plenty of gun power, so it was not that anyone was scared. They were by the book unlike a few of our shitty city officers. I know, I was there, so don't believe everyrhing you hear...

Wrong he was a felon with a gun (1) Domestic Assault (2) Shooting out windows (3) Threatening (4) That's 4 reasons that any law enforcement can enter and arrest this shit bag. You must be his family. No one else could take up for him. Letting him be on the loose was the most incompetent thing anyone could do.

No, I am not family. My family has beat the shit out of this asshole, plus put him in jail before themselves for busting out one of their Windows. You can only enter a residence if a person is in the act of commiting a felony. The person did have a gun, was a convicted felon, but having gone in on that alone would not have stuck without a (search or some type of) warrant. He could have had the gun evidence supressed on the grounds of having had no warrant, and he could have beaten the wanton endangerment and convicted felon charges in that case. That would have possibly have gotten him out of a felony conviction, or two. So bust in, take him, and have him not get prosecuted on a possible technicality? They went about it the smart way. Hell that drunk put a lot of us in danger that night. I can't stand him, and we would love to see him rot in jail!

There is a chain of command with any department. Sheriff makes the call. Deputies follow orders.

State police were there the night this all went down too. They chose not to go in either.

By "turn himself in" it sounds like you're saying he walked himself into custody. Not at all. County got the warrant they needed and they, along with state, went back to the house. He was finally talked into coming out and a state officer arrested him.

Just wanted to clear a few things up. You post as though the officers were too scared to go in. My brother is law enforcement and I know a lot about these guys that were there. I'm sure they wanted nothing more than to go in, even though they risked being shot (you don't think about them having families do you?). Sometimes you have a Sheriff that doesn't let you do your job...Lets hope people remember THAT at election time.

I am glad that everything worked out where everyone was safe. When I first heard, I was very concerned for the officers out there. A lot of them are dads to young children and a couple are dads-to-be. They do risk a lot and end up just being called chickens for following orders...

I've been waiting for this.
Thanks for your input, cityfam. I've been waiting to hear the story from the other side.
Some of the cops in this town make my blood crawl, but in the big picture, we must respect the law!!
The police help protect the weak, the rest of us are just going to have to step up.

It's sad too that the guys protecting and serving us cannot even go practice at the gun range unless they provide their own ammo. Britt, why can't you write up one of your lovely grants for that rather than Hummers we don't need, must keep up, and then tuen back in in a couple years? No wonder the department is broke, lack of leadership skills. What about that nice new house being built Mr. Sheriffman?
