I'd vote for a union here. The hr department is incredibly weak and hold everyone to a different set of standards. Why can't the rule be applied across the board to everyone, consistently? Also, we work 12 hour shifts, no choice- but if we take a vacation day we get paid for 8? What's up with that? Our team leaders are some of the most good ole boy, favoritism playing, lazy ass people I've ever seen.
You are wrong on how many hours you get paid for if you take a vacation day.... If you take a vacation day, you get paid the full 12 hours. It's holiday pay that is 8 hours. If you have a problem with H.R. or the team leaders then have a conference with them and tell them. Nothing can be changed (or attempted to be changed) if you just sit back twiddling your thumbs, and talking about it on here. I have to say, not all of the team leaders are lazy. Some are, but I have seen some jump right in and help on the line without saying an ill word about it.

Then I need to talk to HR about my pay stub. I was only paid for 8 hours of vacation. Oh wait, I have... And yeah I'll have a conference with them and get on their shit list and make things harder on myself.... Makes sense, not. And I need to work in the part of the plant you work in if your team leader does that, bc mine sure doesn't.

Well, if you don't have the balls to stand up to them then you don't have a right to grumble. You are either on grape or Jam to be up this early, and I actually know a couple of team leaders on Grape that do jump in and help on the line. I don't believe that you took 12 hours of vacation and they only paid you for 8. I believe you took 8 hours off and expected to get paid double for the other 4 that you were there. I know for a fact that if they made the mistake of only paying 8 when you weren't there the entire shift, they would add the other 4 on your next pay check. Quit being a crying about it and go find another job if you are that unhappy there!

I've heard a lot of people say they are happy there. So, if that's the case, a union has absolutely no chance.

It's seems like all the people that are taking FMLA are people that are out of vacation days and just want days off. They take FMLA for bs like headaches, stomach crams, and viruses. Which are no real illnesses! It's like there using the system so they don't get fired for being lazy. Then you see them riding around town all day like there's noting wrong with them at all. I'm tired of all use good workers having to take up there sorry fat a** slack. Why doesn't HR see this???

GO UNION
Several years ago, when there was union talk going around at the plant where I worked (not in Scottsville), I was talking with a young lady I knew about the idea of having a union.

I was opposed to the union but the young lady chatting with me thought a union was a great thing.

She told me her cousin (we'll call him Johnny) was a union steward at the factory where he worked in Scottsville.

She told me, "They can't fire Johhny because he's the union steward". She thought that was a awesome. Johnny's job was really secure, and they had their union and they could get all kinds of great benefits because of that. What could be better?

It wasn't three months after we had that conversation that Johnny's place of employment in Scottsville shut down. They closed the doors at Johnny's factory, loaded their equipment on trucks and moved somewhere else.

It would seem that Johnny's job and the jobs of those who voted in a union weren't as secure as they all thought.

But I thought job security was one of the union's selling points, What happened to that job security?

Only an efficiently run plant that is making a good level of profit for it's shareholders can offer it's employees job security.

But profit is a dirty work to hardcore union people. You'll hear them say, "Why these greedy sobs running this company are making millions. They ought to divide that profit up among the employees".

Companies exist to make profits for their owners and shareholders. They make and sell products that benefit the economy. They create jobs for their employees, they pay taxes to various levels of government -- and do a lot of other good -- but that is not why they exist.

Companies exist to make profits for their owners. When there are no profits to be had those companies go somewhere else.

A few years later, after the Scottsville factory closed, the company where I worked voted in a union. Soon the Company sold the plant, but it stayed open and kept operating under the new owners.

In the meantime I got in enough time to retire, and I did.

Not long afterwards the company sold again. They continued to operate until the union contract ran out and then they ceased manufacturing operations, loaded and moved the equipment out, closed the doors and moved away.

It has been my experience that having a union does not provide the job security that the union claims. The truth seems to be just the opposite.

It has also been my experience that the claims of higher pay, better benefits, and better working conditions are not true either.
Before we had a union, we pretty much had all the benefits of most union plants. We didn't gain much more with the union.

Our union agreed to a tightening of work place rules and attendance rules and other rules that did not benefit the employees in order to get a closed shop where everyone had to join the union and to get dues check off where the company collected their dues for them.

Make no mistake, the union is not there to help the employee. The union is there to help the union take in more money. The company doesn't pay the dues -- they come out of the employees paychecks.

And the union is a threat to your job security.

My advice to you is this: If you want Smuckers to stay here in Scottsville -- just say NO to the union.

Its against the law to fire you for advocating for a union in your workplace. With that said dont think it doesnt happen.Be careful if you go ahead with this idea.

Let's go union.......

Hells bells John and Judy you can't just go and leave it at that. If you are gonna tell God and CNN why not go ahead and tell us what it was that they did that would warrant such a threat. Must have been pretty serious if your gonna call Fox News. Does Obama know yet? This must have been a real doozy. Come on don't be shy. Once the can is open you gotta just let the worms out.

Unless...... your just a whiner who thinks they got shafted some how and wants to sling a little mud. Which is it? The ball is in your court. Put up or shut up! Your next post or lack thereof should be very telling.
