Man Faces Murder Charges in Girlfriend's Baby Death

Ben Gericke of Beloit is facing first-degree murder and child abuse charges in the death of Stevie Dawn Mull last July.

could be ...did ya catch the fact that there is no evidence of physical injury!!! neglect sounds more like it to me. if her white blood count was so high, she should have been to a doctor days perhaps weeks sooner, that would be the mommy's responsibility

I did read the article in the paper about the hearing. I'm assuming the local media outlets will report on the case but I don't know how in depth they will publish the facts and statements from the hearing.

I'm curious to know about your comment "outsider". The evidence of there being no physical injury must of been a fact you gathered from the paper?? I thought it said there was a bruise to her cheek (which could of been from a fall...maybe she fell in the shower when he left her unattended??) and also there where signs of healing wounds (which most young kids have, so I wouldn't jump to conclusions on that one either ONLY because the paper didn't say what they were from --- the Mom wasn't asked what the wounds were results from that I recall)...but I do remember reading something about peeling skin from her hands (possible blisters?).

Did they state her white blood count was elevated (if so, it wasn't reported in the article...which confirms not all details will be published)?

Is the hearing open to the public to attend or is just the family and the media present (along with witnesses)? Not that I want to attend...I just wondered. Maybe I shouldn't ask so many questions...and I don't want anyone to think I'm speculating about it. If I am misunderstanding or misinterpreting what I'm reading I would like to be set straight.

pends on which paper you read...the salina journal was the most fair in my opinion on both sides but of course the white blood cell count as stated by the attending doctor is only mentioned on the back page but at least they mentioned it!!! the rest of the papers seem to have to poor guy tried and convicted before trial..its' open to the public in fact if you want REAL truth it would be best not to rely on the local paper ,,,the beloit call couldn't get the name right nor any of the facts

the mother i gues doesn't care as long as she's not charged,,,so sad,,,when you know your child needs care, you get help!!!!how selfish can a person be to let someone take the blame ... and the justice , where is it in mitchell county??? i don't know how those people sleep at night. as far as i know Stevie had not been to the doctor in a long time and didn't have current shots. u know this site makes me sick. people that dont even know me saying things about me u people seem to know more than i do which is sad. say what u want but i lived for my babies and am trying like hell to get my son back. i dont know how to feel about this whole situation. i just wish i knew what i know now trust and believe my beloved baby would still be alive and well. nobody knows the situation i was in. ben seemed perfect and i trusted him with my babies if i didnt i would never have left them with him. ben worked in the day time i worked nights we didnt see eachother alot. i didnt know what was going on my son never told me anything and my babies never acted like anything was wrong. if u believe i should be where ben is...why is that? because i dont like to show my feelings around people i dont want people to feel sorry for me that does not mean i dont care. tell me people how am i supposed to act. none of u will even be able to think about what u would do if this happened to u. i know in my heart i love my babies with all my heart. i dont appreciate u people talking about my personal life when it is none of ur business and all of u should be ashamed of urselves. i am devasted and the last thing i what to read is that people think that i would hurt my own baby.

Bens Cousin....did the jury selection start today for Ben's trial?? I know the trial is coming up and I wondered if they have started the process of selecting jurors.

Also, do you think or know if Amie will ever be held accountable for her neglect? Obviously I only know what I "hear" or "read" but if Stevie had been removed from the home prior to her death, why did the place her back with her mother?? If Amie is the underlying reason her daughter is dead -- assuming she won't be charged with her death...I doubt a "wrongful death" charge will be brought in either.

I often wonder if Amie has her little boy back and also will she be at the trial not as a "witness" but because she loved her daughter [either supporting Ben or against Ben]-- I guess if my child died and I was not in any way at fault, I would be there fighting for the justice my child deserved....

I hope and pray the right person(s) will be punished for the death of Stevie. God bless her soul....

Sad! This whole thing is sad! A baby lost her life because of ignorance, and the parents keep breeding. Such a domino effect. Both of the adults in this situation are guilty. The baby had no food in her system-yet Ben said he fed her pizza!! Yep, gonna believe that one. And the mom, Amie, has moved on to another man, and it's not been a year yet for the death of her child. Please don't try to get your other child back, let him be the one to break the chain!!! Leave him where he is at!!

I love what you've said, and you are right, please let the other child be the one to break the chain. The poor baby (Stevie) deserved so much more!! How sad!! I do hope the members of the hospital and the doctor are able to find comfort in knowing that we all support you, and would want you to do this again!! Fight for every baby-they deserve a chance!!
