Where do the "moms" think the money is going to come from? They don't want to pay themselves but they want to force some stranger to pay for their child's care? This isn't the state's fault... it is the parents.

Agreed. Why should all of us be forced to clothe, feed, and shelter every disabled kid? It's what families are for. These moms need to give up their daily Starbucks and fancy dinners to do what they should be doing all along - paying for their own kids care.

YOU are both wrong. I take care for these Wonderful Disabled people, These families do not spend there days going to Starbucks, or fancy places to eat. They spend there days caring for there children, feeding them from a tube every 3 hours, changing there diapers or bag, suctioning flem sometimes every 10 minutes 24 hours a day. can you imagin eating your dinner running to suction flem and then finish eating? and if they do happen to get away for a little while they feel guilty.
You Both need to spend a day in the shoes of a parent with a special needs child or adult, and then lets see how you feel.
You both need to be Thankful you were blessed with normal children.
The biggest blessing I get everyday is walking into the bedroom of a 40yr. old woman who can do NOTHING for herself, she can't talk, walk or eat like we do, but she has the Biggest, Happiest, SMILE, and that Smile on her face takes away any stress I have.
She cannot do anything, Yet she Smiles.... You can do everything and yet you complain.

No YOU are wrong. Why is their disabled child my responsibility? Why should I care what these parents are going through? THEY are the ones that CHOSE to have a child and it is for THEM to deal with the consequences. Yes, it is unfortunate for them, but they created life and there are no guarantees. I am sick and tired for paying for everyone else's problems when I have worked hard all my life, played by the rules, and I receive nothing. And don't tell me about the great feeling you get from helping these people. Good for you but it's not for everybody. We "other" people have our own problems to deal with. Everyday. And we don't demand ANY HELP whatsoever.

And I suppose you see yourself as this Angel of mercy, a shinning light perhaps, in the darkness of these poor tortured souls lives. You speak of feeding tubes and a 40yr old woman who can do nothing but smile, I would surmise that she smiles at the thought that eventually death will come to her and bring relief from her pain and suffering, and of course your! pious Goddamn attitude. Trust me lady you are not doing these poor souls a favor by forcing them to live a life many would rather not live. Adolf Hitler had a team of Doctors that specialized in keeping tortured victims alive, to be tortured another day. That essentially seems to be your roll in life.

I work 2 jobs 5 to 6 days a week, and I am considered poor. I pay taxes just like you, I live pay check to pay check. If you want to pick on someone pick on the government officials that give themselves a raise every 3 months. Pick on the ones that are on Disability because they say there back hurts, or they have Vertigo, or make believe whatever yet on the weekends there out riding 4-wheelers etc... but don't pick on those that can not speak for themselves.
Some of our disabled were born this way and others because of an unfortunate accident. these people are not the problem it is the ones Faking it that are the problem.

Sorry - but I also agree with Common Sense and the others. This stuff is out of control. I feel bad for the parents, but I didn't spread my legs to conceive the child (sorry to be so blunt and graphic), so I feel I'm not responsible to pay for their care. I've never received a dime to help raise my kids and trust me, it hasn't been easy. These programs are out of control and not regulated. I work with a woman who actually gets reimbursed from the state for buying her OWN CHILD shoes, clothing, etc. If you don't want to take the risk of a disabled child and having to pay for its care, then don't get pregnant in the first place. Take responsibility for your own actions and subsequent reactions.

I can't help but feel sorry for people that don't have a heart. No one asks to have Special needs children, God just blessed them. and not all children or adults are born with disabilities, some get it from the immunizations they are given, some from maybe a severe accident. Head trauma causes severe disabilities. I am sure Christopher Reeve didn't want to end up the way he did from a spinal cord injury. You, Lucy, should feel blessed and be thanking God that you and your family are healthy.

Why would it be the Mothers fault? maybe it is the fathers genes. It takes two, and even then God is in control.

How did families do it before there was big government? If there was a disabled child the whole family rallied around and took care of the disabled child from the cradle to the grave. I believe medicare, medicade, welfare, social security is just a step under having socialized medicine and a few more steps to this Country's march to socialism. And when that day comes, your government will pull the plug on any disabled or terminally ill person they feel is a "lost cause." People need to start looking out for themselves FIRST before turning to the government.
