1. There is a difference between requesting and requiring.
2. I agree. 10 hours isn't too much to invest in your child's education, but it is enough to be a point of elimination.
3. I'm not sure why your application is different than the ap on the website. It is on the website - I just checked it again. That is really odd.
I think people read what they want to see.

I think it is absolutely wonderful that there is another potential source of education for our youth in the works. I have not read any facts that state any child will be forced to attend VIA. I am disappointed that this wasn't an option 15 years ago.
As far Mr. Comer, it is apparent that his students respect him. He is being treated like a hardened criminal, I honestly believe the situation could have handled more professionally. Right, wrong or indifferent. My question for everyone that feels his actions were unjust, have any of you ever read a magazine or skimmed through a book at the grocery or while standing in line to check out at Wal-mart, and then put it back without purchasing it? If so, do you consider yourself a thief?

Wow.....that isn't even close to being the same situation. If it was, then comer would have suggested via, then changed his mind. Why do people blindly consider this an option? Apparently, many details of things promised on the application aren't going to happen. Support that was stated isn't really there. The public has been misled to believe that this school is some sort of savior, when in fact, it seems to be full of deceit.
Tell me this, if Walmart sees an employee steal something, would they let them stay employed until they steal something else just to be sure?

Good points-ask the people he decieved! Sure the kids respect him--what he was good at with kids and adults-manipulation!

Hey, Brit you don't have to kiss Mr. Slatons butt because you are worried about getting fired because I heard from some aides and watchdogs in the school that you spent an awful lot of time in Mr Comers office with your own personal laptop. I know that you think you are sly but you forget how many people are watching what is going on in the school. It's not like watchdogs or the aides are actually staying busy all day. I guess Mr. Comer still needed a spy at Vienna to see what was going on so he can still manipulate the great people at Vienna. Good luck at the new charter school when it opens
I do not work at VFES. I am a stay at home mom and my child goes to SES. I only posted under the name "Brit" because it was already in the name box. I know better to post something on this site under my real name. Everyone that does that ends up being bashed & start having lies told on them. But you already know that because you thought I was someone else and decided to sling some mud at the person. I apologize to the real Brit for subjecting you to this site.

So I guess you were using the same computer as Brit since the forum only keeps the name of the last person who had posted from that computer or it comes up blank. You must be real close to Brit

Nope, I'm using my computer from home. I do know her in passing, she seems very sweet and from what I hear, she is a great teacher that has no intentions of leaving VFES. If you are wondering where came up with the name Brit, my kids were listening to Britney spears on the ihome when I first posted something on topix. I had no idea a name that millions of women have could cause so much trouble. I feel really bad about this.:(

Ps. I will not be posting as Brit on here anymore. I won't use a name at all, I will be numbers. I hope there's no one out there named 3c4d5e, if there is, I will apologize now....geez.

Spreading rumors about current teachers just distracts us from the point. Want to be mad? Then be mad at the man that deceived these teachers, who never intended to be there for the long haul since his application states that the charter is paying him next year!!!! I only know of the one you speak of, but as fas as I know, aren't they still in the classroom day in and day out teaching her students? Don't attack the ones that are still doing their jobs....remember, this is about a charter school damaging our community. For all we know, the staff at his school were duped as much as we were...maybe more.

Where is this new school and can anyone send there children there? If we can all send ours there if we choose, then maybe we are jumping the gun on worrying about the principal leaving-just go to the new school next year. We have foster children that attend vienna and like to keep as much stability as possible in their lives.
This school if approved will be located in Scottsburg and yes they say anyone can attend but they will only service a little over 400 students but there are a few things that they don't tell you such as, the parents will have to do a MANDATORY 10 hours of community service a month for the school and that every student that they take away from the already existing schools takes money away from them. And did they tell you that they are asking for a million dollar (loan) from tax money from Scott County, if approved and the charter school fails who will pay that tax money back. Do your research, you will find your answers, there was a meeting for the public to come and voice their concerns some were for the school but most were against. They down graded our teachers and the educational system as being inadequate, lots of things came out about Mr. Comer straight from a teacher at V-F it would have amazed you as it did many of us there, they were very shocking and not in good favor of him. Like I said do your research.

When a principle keeps putting off the teachers of his school taking state mandated testing then there is some thing very wrong with how he is running that school and yes Mr. Comer did do this and when asked by the teachers when they would be able to take a state mandated reading test, his response was basically when the reading police come then they could take it (not an exact quote) but you can get the picture, he tried running that school into the ground to make it and the teachers look bad so that he would have a better chance of getting this school open. So what would you call a man like that? Needless to say that he didn't do that great a job running it down, the teachers are to good to let that happen to them, their school and their students. Shame on him.......

Justme: You are a moran! VFES has some of the highest scores in Indiana, along with JES. Maybe LES is in there, too. For you to say that Mr. Comer was running his school into the ground shows me where the rumors come from. Yes, parents that choice Via will cost SCSD2 the 6000 per student. Look at it that way or look at it as each student gets 6000 and they can spend it where they want. My kids will stay in VFES for the time being, but morans let you make me want to move them outside of SCSD2. Justme you probably say the other side is grasping for straws, well what are you doing.

When I moved into the area I researched all of the public schools to send my two children to, and I picked Lexington. You are right that Vienna, Johnson, and Lexington all have good scores but as I was researching I noticed Vienna was declining every year. Why would I want to send my children to a school that was losing ground yearly. I had my choice verified as a good one when I saw Vienna's loved administrator smile as some of his students were name calling other school's children. Not an influence I would want for MY children. I don't quite understand why everyone rushes to defend a man with the things I see and hear from their teachers. My thoughts and prayers are with the Vienna family and I hope they find an administrator that has THEIR best interest at heart.

Actually, I've had confirmation about this now from several reliable sources. Comer is planning to leave Vienna and start his own school. Apparently former school board member Terry Jones and him have been working on doing this. The board doesn't have to be involved....they are breaking away from the district. Charter or public, I'm not sure, but he is leaving. The money would come from outside sources....the district doesn't pay, but they could lose money if children attend the new school. I find this to be appalling considering how much emphasis there is on community from this school. I hope Vienna bands together and shows that we are a great school and community, no matter who our principal will be. Vienna is one of the best ranked elementary schools in Southern Indiana. It's been that way through Mr. Hobbs, Mr. Lohman, and Brent. It will continue to be.
I hope he gets it done!!!!! This pathetic community tried to ruin a great man because they fear his success! I sat through the town hall meeting, and this community should be ashamed of its actions!!!!!
